Ever since one of the upgrades hell if i remember, we have started to get Graphics and/or Internet Lag versions 1.4 and before have been perfect and just damn good, If its possible and why not rollback to an earlier WORKING version. i even bought a new computer for this and trust me, it does NOT suck the specs on it are: 2GB Ram, ATI Radeon x1800XT, 3.6 AMD 64-Bit Dual Core Processor and a nice mother board with more slots and i really dont think i need anything else...Whats the problem with second life? since 1.4 i havent noticed that many changes besides teen grid and some barely usefull features besides the bug fixes i really dont think theres anything else we need so please LL can you restore the good days? i cant even play anymore and i am not the only one if you do rollback you should keep some of the Interface options but most other things like the textured map and so which i think causes most lag is pretty much useless, so please. Linden Labs fix Second Life?

But. but, but, about 10 players who haven't turned it off already would lose shiny water.

I think perfect is a relative term ![]() not a word I would use to describe 1.4 by a long way Can you imagine rewinding to 1.4 with 5000 people online ? It doesn't bear thinking about! I have fond memories of 1.4 because it was about the time I joined but those memories don't include laggless movement. As I recall it only took 5 AVs in vision to bring my client to a standstill. And that was with no local lighting. |

Linden Labs fix Second Life? Well first problem is you got a brandnew computer and put an ATI card in it. Alot of people who play games that don't use directx have problems with ATI. They Messed around with how they did OpenGL so it has problmes with SL. I refused to get an ATI card beucse I do linux as well and ATI's drivers don't work that well. a 64 bit prosscessor will do nothing for your computer till Vista comes out and we start getting 64bit Binaries built for the programs we use and even then it should be a minor thing. Dule Core dosn't matter much for the preformance of a single program unless the program is made to use both cores. I do not have a 2x system so I don't know if there are any functions that would help at all anyone know if you can move processes from one processor to the other. Like move everything off one of them and run SL alone for the most part on the other? only help I can think of. BTW my system is a AMD64 3000+, 2gig DDR400, Nvidia PCI-E 6600 128 on a asus motherboard and I run at 25+ 90% of the time and when I am in clear space I can get the full 45FPS that the physics runs at . Ohh one more thing make shure you have local lighting off. Local lighting has been broken sence 1.7 came out and made the full bright texture option. it will make any system drop to 3fps _____________________

Local lighting has been broken sence 1.7 came out and made the full bright texture option. it will make any system drop to 3fps I run with local lighting on most of the time and get above 10fps in most places and this is on an old 15" G4 Mac powerbook 1.25. I would not recommend turning off local lighting unless you're really crawling. You miss so much cool stuff. Of course if you don't care to see cool stuff then turn it off. The trouble with local lighting is that most people have it turned off and builders with lighting off tend to copy objects with it on without noticing, hence we end up with whole areas lit with local lighting and massive local lag because of it. Local lighthing used in moderation is a GREAT thing. Not to be simply dismissed because all you've ever noticed is the lag it causes when it's misused. |

I think you've brought up an exelent point Laukosargas, people want rollbacks because they remember them working better, but there were fewer people back then, which is one of the reasons it worked better..
I think they've done an exelent job updating, moving along with the increase in population.. _____________________

I think they've done an excellent job updating, moving along with the increase in population.. ![]() However you are right about the correlation between version numbers and population counts with the notable exception of the texture asset/interest/decompression bug admitttedly introduced in v1.7. |

Excellent appears also to be a relative term ![]() However you are right about the correlation between version numbers and population counts with the notable exception of the texture asset/interest/decompression bug admitttedly introduced in v1.7. Lol fair enough.. It just seems the residents wanting rollbacks (with the exception of this one) seem to be pretty new in SL.. Because.. 1: They're not used to the couple of days of aftermath of an update and 2: They don't know what it used to be like.. Being told to leave a club or "take off all those damn attachments" ![]() _____________________

Laukosargas --I would hazard to say some of the very best uses of local lighting I've seen --ARE YOUR'S!! ![]() seriously --never visit one of Laukosargas' builds with local lighting turned off --you would be soooo missing out. _____________________

It also looks like it is still broken on the PC version. when from my normal 25FPS to 3.2fps. _____________________

I'm also not using a dual core system. However I have heard reports that the SL client actually has trouble with dual core machines. Try setting the clients affinity for one processor higher so it doesn't try to move from one processor to the other. I may not know what I'm talking about about, but I could still be on to something
