okay here is the problem, sinse about 3 weekas ago every time I try to log into SL it crashes. At random loading things like precatching, loggin when it askes if I want to play media, it just won't stop and if I am lucky I can log in and play for about 5 min then it crashes. And I have tried everything to try to fix it I must have reinstalled it over 40 times! I set the graphics to low, went to another login place, And nothings wrong with my computer of connection because everything else works fine.

when 1.7 first came out my loadin screen got stuck and never loaded then it got fixed and I could enjoy SL for a short time untill I have this crash problem, now can anyone out here please help me ? and please do not make me have to keep on bumping this to get help.

CPU?
Memory?
Video card?
Operating system?

Make sure you've the latest drivers for your video card.

I'd still post your specs to be sure.. And its important to keep your drivers up to date... SL isn't like other "games"..

If you're not going to answer the question, I'm not going to be able to help. No one's going to claim your computer is below spec (well, unless it is) but some hardware has some issues, and knowing what hardware you have could make this process simple.

"2004 Alienware" doesn't tell us anything.

Here's the kind of detail you should be able to provide... I'll use my computer as an example:

Motherboard: Biostar U8086D
CPU: Pentium 4 2.4 GHz with 400 MHz FSB
RAM: 1 GB SDR, 2 512M DIMMS
Video: nVidia 5600, 256M VRAM, 1024x768
Network: Realtek RTL8139 on motherboard

At the very least: CPU manufacturer, model, and speed; RAM type and size; Video card type and amount of VRAM.

Chose "Run" from your start menu and type in "Dxdiag" (as long as you have Direct X installed, most people do).. And copy the information Argent mentioned.. Motherboard, CPU, RAM, Video Card.. Copy as much info as you can in fact..

If you want people to help you you really should answer questions they have.. With a lot of games there are problems with specific hardware..

Also make sure your drivers are up to date.. Its also important..

You didn't win that computer or something did you? I can't imagine buying an Alienwere only 1 year ago and not knowing its specs..

Thought so, an ATI user. ATI's Catalyst drivers don't like SL very much, switch to the Omega drivers. Not sure where they can be found, but I'm pretty sure Guru3D.com would have it.

Thought so ... another person that will blame everthing on ATI.

The drivers can be found at omegadrivers.net.

And the spec mean nothing when it works fine .. then it starts crashing. I use ATI too .. and most of all the issues I have had.. are all SL!!

So be careful when you judge others!!

But out of that, considering I'm running fine with less ram etc, the ATI card is the most likely thing that'll be causing the problems.. Its playing the odds..

Bull - no one was judging. ATI and SL have issues - this is a statement of fact.

Exactly, I wasn't dissing ATI cards because they are quality cards. There's no denying that. If they weren't they wouldn't be able to compete with nVidia.

In the last couple of weeks there have been several updates. Each time you update there is potential for a problem to crop up. First thing to do is completely uninstall SL and reinstall the full version on the downloads page. Next, update the motherboard, sound and network drivers if they aren't the latest. Next would be to uninstal completly the ATI video drivers using the control panel and the free drive cleaner on the ATI web site. Next, get the latest Omega driver and load it up.
