Hello there, I posted this in the Hotline & now posting in here in case anyone else is experiencing this. Here's a link to the hotline: /invalid_link.htmlWhat I'm noticing is that no matter where I'm at I notice that I get a hard pause from SL every 6 seconds. Everything freezes for 2 seconds & then unfreezes & goes about their business. It's a constant loop & I'm not exactly sure what it is. Live help thinks it's my video card & suggested a cold reboot. I've done that & still same results. As I stated in the hotline, it's not unplayable, just noticeable. If I get an answer in the Hotline report, will report back. In the meantime, is anyone else experiencing this? Later, Specks: Microsfot Windows XP Pentium 4 CPU 3.40 GHz 3.39 GHz, 3.00 GB Ram 228 GB HD Nvidia GeForce 6800 *edited* sorry forgot to mention that yes I did bug report this in world as well

Something similar happened to me in Amsterdam. Every few seconds, SL would freeze for a moment and then continue as usual. If it happens again, I'll record more details (graphic options, debug console contents) and report the bug too.

yes the same has happened to me... called support and they said that my video card is not supported ATI Radeon 9500. but for me it happens sometimes and sometimes it doesnt. i can build for hours and not have it happen and other days it is every few min.
They also said that it might be static on the line for my dsl, which is 100% possible because of the rubbish lines in the UK.
Mine still isn't fixed, but since it's not every single 6min i deal with it. I've found that if i turn my computer off over night the next day it works well... but then again im on a laptop that doesnt have the processing speed that you do.
Check you have the newest drivers, if you have dsl check that there is no static on the line.

You have an ATI Radeon 9500 and the Lindens are saying it's not supported? According to their system requirements, it's ATI Radeon 9000 or higher: http://secondlife.com/whatis/sysreqs.php

Hello,
Thanks for the replies. I've left the pc off overnight & updated my card this morning & still receive the hard pauses. The difference is now that it is not every 6 seconds, it is now 15 seconds this happens. So it improved LOL.
I have a few snapshots as to what going on during the time. The only thing I see after each hard pause is my Basic FPS Bar will complelty fill up w/red & drop down 20% of it's current position. I also notice a the bandwidth bar filling up quickly but staying put as far as speed is concern.
I'm not sure of any other screen shots that would be of help or interest & still waiting to hear something via Hotline or Bug Report.
Thanks again

I am experiencing that stuttering issue, as well. I noticed that it starts slowly for me. How much space do you all use for your Windows paging file?

Funny... I've run fine for ages on this system, with nary a problem - and even yesterday, everything was beautiful...
And yet today - it's just started for me. this is the reason I'm even here on the support forums.
I've rebooted, and rebooted, reinstalled drivers, completely uninstalled and reinstalled SL.. and heck - now I'm even posting from a completely virgin windows install (I've tried both XP-64 and XP, btw...) and it's STILL doing it.
*sighs* Maddening at best.
Athlon 64 3800 Dual-core ATI Radeon 9600 1 GB Ram DX 9.0c Windows XP Pro, XP-64 Pro and the latest CTP build of Vista/Longhorn/whatever it's called this month (take your pick, yes, I've tried them all so far this morning...)

I decided to test it out on my notebook too - and it's running beautifully on the notebook, without so much as a single hitch...
P4 3.06Ghz, 512MB ram and a paltry 64MB GeForce FX 5200 running XP Home.
It's running as smooth as silk, compared to my desktop now.

Just a final update on this situation as it still continues to happen. Robin addressed the low fps situation & I guess in regards to the hard pauses comment, that's been "passed on to QA". This isn't much to go on other then it got acknowledge & the ppl having this problem has been pacified by saying the comment was passed onto QA. Probably the Black Hole. Thanks for the feebdack & good luck to us all who have this "unique" & unheard of hard pauses. /invalid_link.htmlFrom: Robin Linden on 10-29-05 I've passed your comments on to QA. Thanks for the feedback. We're working on some fixes right now that should address the low fps issues. Those should be available next week.

Just posted on the Hotline that switching off shadows solves the pausing/stuttering problem for me. Brock mentioned that stopping the movement of the sun stops the problem too, so I guess it may be related? Anyway, worth a try if you get the pausing/stuttering!!

I get slight (< 2 second) pauses that are related to Shiny for me.. (ATI X850XL Video)
But I just TP somewhere else and the pausing stops..but if I see lots of shiny then pausing can start again...so annoying..but easy to fix by reboot, or TP...

With that duel core AMD, have you tried setting affinity so the game only runs on one core? This is a big problem with my 4400+ X2. While the game is running, bring up the task manager (cntrl+alt+delete) and right click on SecondLife.exe, select "set affinity" and uncheck one of the boxes.

I told them that, and they said that it still isn't supported. Oh well. At least it was nice hearing an American again But my hard pauses drops the frame rate to 1fps. Nothing else I do on my lappy does this (including WoW). Support has been less then useful for the past few months and well.. I'm buying a desktop soon anyways. Oh well. GL for anyone else trying to fix this.

I occasionaly pick up this problem after sl has been running for a while. This happens on both my desktop and my laptop. My desktop: amd 2800+ xp, 1gig ram(dualchannelng), 9800pro, soundblaster audigy ls, dx9c Laptop: Intel Pentium M 760(centrino), 1gig ram, ati mobility x700, dx9c. ( http://us.acer.com/acerpanam/page4.do?dau22.oid=7985&UserCtxParam=0&GroupCtxParam=0&dctx1=25&CountryISOCtxParam=US&LanguageISOCtxParam=en&crc=2424625818 model TM8104WLMi-XPP) I know both these systems are more than capable of handling sl. Something is obviously not working right, but thenagain, I had this problem before 1.7 even came out.

From: Malachi Petunia Where is it written that LL must be self-consistent? Linden Lab must be self-consistent. Their written documents must not be self-contradictory. Company spokespersons, asked for an official ruling on a question, must not contradict themselves in their response and may not cite as support or explanation an ambiguous or contradictory passage from a company document or cite a passage which is contradicted elsewhere in company documents or rulings from spokespersons. Company statements must clear, concise, comprehensive, coherent, and contradiction-free.

When was the last time they updated SL' req, cause im pretty sure its steeper then it was when they set it, tons of people, textures, avatars can be quite insane detailed. Was the req made on a deserted island with no textures, and 1 avatar? PC Requirements: litterally means , bare minimum, and good luck. • Graphics Card: Nvidia Geforce 2 (32MB RAM) or higher, or ATI Radeon 8500 (32MB RAM) or higher • Computer: 800MHZ or higher, 256MB RAM or more • OS: Windows XP/2000 maybe 2 years ago? yeah... good luck with that
