I posted the following feedback to Torley's blog on her CommUpdate - Sept 3 article, but just in case she feels that it violates the "family room" guidelines and moderates it off her blog, I'm reproducing it here for posterity. (LL, we really will try to use the new Blog but honestly, it's no substitute for official forums, especially when entries that are critical of LL might get moderated even if they're civil, as has been the documented case so far --soapbox off)

Could you LL folks please give us a status update on the horrific “Images Time” memory leak that’s been plaguing the main grid for over a month now? In case you’re not sure to which bug I’m referring, it’s the one that Torley Linden verified in /111/d5/119506/1.html , where the Images Time stat spikes very high when AVs enter or TP into a sim, correspondingly killing the Dilation Time for periods of up to 20 seconds at a time. This is the number one cause of what most people see as “lag” or “moving through molasses” for the past month. It’s progressive once it starts on a sim, and the only fix is a sim reset, which of course is difficult for the mainland sims. It can happen if there’s only one AV in the entire sim.

Really, this is the number one quality of life issue affecting SL, for over a month now. Please, pretty please tell us what’s going on with this and roughly when we can expect to see it fixed?

^ That's a totally valid concern as I've posted about the same issue before. :) I don't want you to be scared... a good family can talk about problems and how to go about solving them right? :)

I'll reply on the blog. :D

Torley's reply on the referenced blog entry is spot-on and the linked articles describe the problem well, and where the LL folks are at with it. I urge anyone curious about this issue to read the blog reply. Thanks, Torley!

You're super welcome, Fushichou! I'm also looking for more info that we can provide as the investigation continues--in any case, when it's fixed, we'll be certain to say so!
