(I reposted this from another thread)
I am new to SL and it crashes when it tries to load. Downloaded all updates and have 500M memory on my Fujitsu Series C Lifebook. Should I try tweaking the Bios and device drivers or would this be futile? The only other system I have has an All-in-Wonder 128 Pro with 32m of memory.
Thanks for any info

Probably not, no. The IGP 340M is based on the Radeon 7000 series, which, due to its lack of hardware T&L support, is well below the minimum required specs. You can try to get it working by downloading the actual Catalyst drivers from the ATI website, then running this tool on them: http://www.driverheaven.net/patje/This may allow SL to run, but you may find that you don't have things like... textures. Sorry.

I spent the evening checking out Radeon and Geforce cards to put in one of my Pentium 3 systems. Very confusing. I figure I'll probably get a card that needs something else I don't have. Meanwhile I'll just have to visit until I get a system configured. Hope it's worth it as I don't know anyone who does SL. BTW I only have dialup in my area.

I hate to break it to you, but you're not going to get SL working on dialup. You need broadband for the sheer amount of data it streams to you. Sorry.

Sorry. *nods* We had to run it on dialup for a grand total of one day, while they were working on the DSL. (Local phone co-op so...) Believe me, you won't like the results at all and to prove it, I gave up after 5 minutes.

From: Lola Draper Thanks all
Guess I'll have to use a Sat dish... Unfortunately, you might not find that to be very good either. You'll definitely get in, and be able to move around and stuff, but your ping time will be measured in seconds, not ms. The latency of a satellite connection is incredibly high, and that means your response time will be really delayed. Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of other options for users in rural areas. If I knew the rough area you were talking about, I might be able to suggest an alternative provider.
