Hi folks,

Have been trying to help my friend with one of their issues, I'm a technician myself and have a decent understanding of Second Life itself so you don't need to explain things in baby talk to me :) .

The problem is as it says in the title, they can login to Second Life alright with no trouble, but when they get in its pretty much like being underground and under the ctrl/shift/1 stats bandwidth usage is 0 almost as if something is blocking a certain connection. I've guided them through the following "possible solutions" that didn't work at all.

(Not in order of "attempt";)

~Network driver updated/downgraded
~Re-installation of Second Life itself (Including clearing cache and adjusting all possible settings related to Bandwidth usage)
~Forcing the connection to individual sims incase the avatar was stuck in one.
~Adjusting/removing/installing any security software that may be related.

I'm just wondering before I go any further to try help them that there isn't an "easy" fix for this out there already....I've searched a bit but haven't come up with anything so far.

Edit: Its on a wired network, also this just happened one day when they attempted to login...prior to that it worked.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Is it the user or the connection?, probably something i would want to know.. so if you have another PC that can connect as that user, on the same line that the defective one cant.. you have a pointer to the fault .. either way, if no other PC can connect on the same line then there is another pointer to follow..

so..
1.establish if that PC can connect on another line known to work for another PC, for that user.

2.If its that particular PC only, then is that version of the SL client? or all, ie windlight or standard?

2.If its both clients... on that PC only..then something has changed in that PC`s config that is disabling SL

3.if its only one client.. on that PC only ... then there is a client difference, that PC needs to resolve..

4.if its that particular PC only on both clients on a known working line for other PC`s then again there is something in the way that PC is configured that stops connection.

does that info help?

Hi there,

you say its like being underground, have you checked the coordinates of the sim at the top of the screen. I have seen similar problems when AV's were stuck at (10,10,10) or with a negative in the coordinates.

yea sometimes when i've met my bandwidth threshold(on sattelite) my avatar will appear to be at the corner of a sim..all the way down under the ocean...and ill see what i assume to be other avatars having the same issues as myself..its sortve like the corners of the sims are the trash heaps of packet loss...maybe someones boot..someones hair....piece of a build...and "me"...just sitting there..legs wrapped around my neck as if Im in a trash compacter.

Actually thats the same problem I have... but I can login with other accounts on my computer and have no problems. But you explained your problem way better than I have.
