I recently rented a large tract of land. 12,000 sq.m. I would like to be able to edit the terrain, create tp location, edit media, and a few other things.

The owner of the land created a group and made me an officer. He has allowed me these rights but I am not allowed to do any of these things.

Under World>About Land> everything is grey'd out. No access.

What are we doing wrong? Is there a manual somewhere I could find to look this up?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
Nickyl

the owner of the group, has to make sure he added you to the group that that land is deeded to, and that, the abilities that you would like to have, is checked off, in that role of the group settings. Hope this helps :)

Hi Traci, thanks for responding.

Can I further ask, is this group different than the one he created specifically for us as land renters? is there a specific group created for this lands owner that we have to be added to?

thanks
nickyl

It 'could' be a different group, but not required.
There are different titles within each group. (Owner, Officer, Member, Cannibal etc.)
All 'Officers' have certain permissions set. as do Members, etc. (these permissions are set by the group owner.)
If you are an 'OFFICER' (or other role with the power to do Edit terrain, media, etc.), then IF the land is deeded to the group, then you should be able to do these things.

Note that the OWNER (if he's smart) will NOT allow anyone else to 'Sell the land', 'Subdivide' it, etc. That way, he (as the only OWNER), can sell the land BACK to himself, if he decides to cancel the group.

hey sterling

the owner created a group for me. he made me an officer. gave me the permissions. but for some reason i'm not allowed to do the things he has granted me right to do. all the things that should allow me access to are grey, i can't add media even though as group officier i've been granted permission to add media.

there is something missing and without being a land owner and unable to investigate this with my own eyes i'm at the mercy of asking for help.

what does a group being 'deeded land' actually mean? what does the owner have to do to deed a group land?

also in the group, i can't change a persons status. i have been given the permission to do this but i can't take a person and change their status.

thanks for your help, really really thanks.

hmmm.
So try these 3 things...or just skip to 'FINALLY' ;)
1. Be sure you're wearing your Group Name Tag. (Edit, Group...). Then hilite the group, and push the ACTIVATE button and the INFO button. in the info window that opens for the group--on the first tab that opens--down in the bottom right corner, you'll see a little popup. Be sure its set for the 'officer' title, or whatever. (in your case, it'll have two, probably "Member" and "officer". )

2. Your friend's status is changed in the same Group Info window..but in the other tab. Find the Member and tic the box to change his role...right now, he's probably just a member.

3. When Standing on the Land whose audio you are trying to change, open 'World, About Land...' and then the 'Media' tab. Paste the URL of the music you want directly into the Audio URL slot.

FINALLY. IF #3 doesn't work, then look on the first tab of About land...
The OWNER should be the name of the group. If its not, then the existing owner must DEED the land to the GROUP before the audio permissions, etc., will work.

thanks so much sterling for taking the time to go through this. i've done all this and it seems the problem is with the deed thing. i looked at the world>about land thing and Allow Deed to Group is *not* checked.

the probable cause of the whole schabang.

you guys are great. i love SL. thanks so much

hey folks

i've had the owner deed the land to the group he created for us. nothing happened. i left the group and rejoined the group just for the heck of it to see if it reset something. nothing

i'd like to advertise the land, add media, edit terrain and we're totally stuck.

can anyone think of something that hasn't been done? some box maybe the land owner has to check.... anything...

i have the group tag activated, i'm an officer, the officer has all the permission except sell land, and the group has been deeded the land....

help.

When you do 'About Land' on the parcel, who is shown as the Owner?
