First off, yesterday I logged in and it told me to download the new version of
SL from the website.
I did just like the Information Database told me. "1) Open
c:\Documents and Settings\(yourusername)\Local Settings and delete the contents
of your Temp folder.
2) Open c:\Documents and Settings\(yourusername)\Application Data\Second Life
and delete the contents of the Cache folder.
3) Uninstall Second Life using the Add/Remove Programs tool in your Windows
Control Panel."
Then I installed the latest version of SL.

I log in and connect. It says "Verifying protocol version..." for quite some
time.
Then "Unable to connect to Second Life
The system may be down.
Please try again in a few minutes, or click Help
for advice and a link to the system status web page." pops up! I looked in the
knowledge database and the only thing I find is "If you are running wireless
networking, you may need to use a wired connection."
That's bollocks! I've BEEN on a wireless network and I have played SL for a
month already! I cannot just run a wire through two floors of my house and I
have already invested so much money into SL. Needless to say, I am quite
aggravated!
Is there anything else I can do???

Please help!!

I also tried reconnecting, opening ports, restarting, etc. etc. etc.

I sent a support e-mail last week but haven't gotten any reply... I miss SL. ;-;

Are you using a router with build in wireless, or is the wireless access point connected to the router via ethernet? Are you connecting to the wireless via b or g (11 mb or 54 mb)? Do you have the Windows firewall turned on, or useing any other software firewall?

I have a Linksys Wireless B Network Router upstairs.
On this computer, I have a Linksys Wireless B USB Network Adapter

I have Windows Firewall disabled and I have no other software firewalls.

This version is fiddly what i had to do was not only delete app folder but SL folder to, keeping any old files tripped client every time.

delete
C:\Program Files\SecondLife
(wherever you installed it)

delete
C:\Documents and Settings\*username*\Application Data\SecondLife
(do not keep any of the folders)

remove SL entirely from any firewall

reinstall , start up and let whatever firewall ask you if you want to permit this to up/download

I had this problem and I took off the windows firewall but still the same thing. I then disconnected the firewall on my taskbar at lower right and it worked. After loading in I reconnected the Firewall and no problems so far.

WoW, I can't believe I actually said, "no problems" when talking about this game. Incredible!!!

Would it be possible to plug directly into the cable/dsl access to the internet and try logging on? That would let us know if it is a setting on the computer, or a network issue with the client and the wireless or wired network?

On the Linksys Wireless router, make sure Stateful Packet Inspection is turned on, and if that doesn't work, try putting your computer in the DMZ zone (sort of like a direct connection via the router)

Also, one other thing, open a command window, and type in ipconfig /flushdns - that will clear the dns cache just in case it is a stuck entry.

Okay, I couldn't find Stateful Packet Inspection, but I did turn on the DMZ. I tried flushing the DNS too. I tried installing SL on the computer that has the router connected to it and it didn't work either. >.<

Ok, that tells us it's not your computer, but rather your connection to the internet. Is it DSL, or Cable? Do you have the UPNP Ports set to active on the router? On the router, it should list what IP address your ISP is giving you - does it start with 10, or 172 or 192?
