Quick one here: Whenever I try to login, it gets me to the point above and it will pause there for a few moments...then I wind up getting disconnected with the following message:

"Unable to connect. Login packet never recieved by login server."

Haven't seen anything on the forums about this, or in the Wiki...so if someone has an idea of what is causing this and how to fix it, I would be greatly appreciative. Thank you.

I've been having the same problem all day. Has something to do with port acess. If I put my comp in my routers DMZ everything is fine. Been using SL with no problem till the latest update. Reviewed my router configuration, it still complies with the info in the tech wiki. Don't know what changed... very frustrating.

It seems to be a firewall / port-blocking issue.

I need a little more information on how to configure my router. I remember doing it once but I kinda forgot how. Also, any other information on setting the DMZ and port forwarding for Second Life would be appreciated. I'm locked out of SL until I can get this issue resolved.

May not be blocked/closed ports

As I mentioned above I have been having the same trouble since the last software update. IF you had been able to connect before the update and can't now then it isn't likely to be your port configuration. After many hours of trying everything I could think of and many emails exchanged with SL support I just accidently discovered that turning off the "SPI" or Stateful Packet Inspection option on my router, restored my ability to connect to SL. I'm not entirely sure what impact this has on security, but evidently Linden Labs has made some change that doesn't agree with SPI.

I see. That's a bit out of my league, but whatever the case, I still need info on how to even get into my router to configure it in the first place. Whether it's blocked ports or conflicts with SPI, I can't do anything with my router until I can remember how to get into it. :P

You can look it up in router's manual or download one from your router's manufacturer.

But here are some things to try since it sounds like you're using an out-of-the-box configuration:

Most routers use the same local network IP addresses, so you can try:

http://192.168.1.1

http://192.168.0.1

You may then get to your router's control panel. The default password in many cases is 'admin' or 'password'.
