This seems to be a continual message or one frequently run into as of late... sorry but you are being logged in from another location and will not be available until such and such a time? What is this and WHY does it happen SO often.

The basic story is that the region you were last in is the server that handles your request to log off of Second Life. Among other things, the region has to save the attachments you were wearing, so you can log back in exactly as you were when you logged off.
If you don't log out graciously (i.e. you crash), or the region you were last in can't save your attachments quickly (i.e. it has a lot of other pending saves to perform), you're not able to log back in until everything's completed. (The alternative would be that your attachments weren't saved, and we don't want that!)
We've tested a few fixes that make saving attachments on logoff a priority for regions; they should be in an upcoming release.
