I have a HP Paviilion a1487c,
Intel Pentium D 3.0 Ghz,
250GB Hard drive,
1GB RAM,
Nvidia Geforce 7300 LE (updated driver)

In a recent thread I had asked for help. Nothing worked. Just last night I used the Recovery Drive to re-install Windows Media Center (XP hehe), but I was able to keep all my data files as well. Seems like it worked. I keep trying SL again and I can tell that I am getting much better results. Except there is more issues. I still can't login.

Instead of before when I would login, everything be grayed out and whatnot, now I get my gray body... the ground and water... even shapes of other buildings and trees. SO CLOSE! (has been several days without SL on my own computer.) So I decided to look at the lag meter.... I tried 8 times and recorded what happened. SAME THING EVERY SINGLE TIME.

Client Frame rate below 10
Connection ping time is over 600ms

I've scanned for viruses, I don't run my firewall while trying to play SL, I've updated my Sound and Video Drivers, I have even tested SL on another computer on my home network. It has no problems logging in. Im quite jealous!

For my network, I have...

Wireless Netgear modem/router (provided by Time Warner Cable, NOT MY DECISION unfortunately... Netgear sucks... though it works!)

Two Computers are hooked into it directly upstairs.

Then I have a ethernet cord coming down into the basement, stretching across the house just to reach where my computer and my boyfriend's computer. We have a DLINK 10/100 Fast Ethernet Switch.

My equipment works. I've ruled that out. Tested it all. My internet works fine other than the fact that I can't properly login onto SL.

Please help me! I really have no idea what to do. I've tried what I could think of. I've never had an issue like this before in my whole computer geekness life. lol So please, assist me with this problem I am having. If you need more info, I'll be glad to share if it helps on figuring out how to fix my broken SL. :P

Yes I do know that SL is retarded sometimes... but it's been several days. I can't help but to think that it's something to do with my computer.

I thought about finding a better Spyware remover or whatever. But I can only go for the free ones... I also thought about finding a way to test my PING. But that's an area of computer's I've never had to go to... Am I on the right track.

Thanks for reading this far! HOPE you have many ideas for me.

I dont have a clue about this stuff but I have heard that wireless can be a major problem. You might want to hook up a cable and see if that helps at all. Hopefully some one else will come along soon with a light blub on top of their head.

Rosalani,

It appears that you have made some progress with your problem. Please keep the thread going, this helps people review the previous posts and may be able to spot your problem.

First of all, you are indeed logged into SL. You are experiencing a very slow data exchange, this needs to be addressed.

Do not keep clearing your cache, it is not necessary, everytime this is done, any texutre data has to be re-loaded and that can take a bit of time.

600msec ping sim is a problem, but mostly show up as a delay in keystrokes, walking and such.

Do you ever let everything load or do you just log back off?

You mentioned in the other thread that you did not have this problem before. Patience is a must in solving any problem, and reviewing each problem, step by step is important.

My first suggestion is to log in and wait.............................
Are you trying to log in to an extremely laggy area?
Find a quiet place without a lot of textures and log in there.
Pay attention to your hard drive, is it constantly spinning?
What is your internet connection speed?
What is your cache set to? Edit>Properities>Network>cache

It appears that there is a bottleneck on your end and this can be solved, it just will take patience and a lot of precise information to discover where it is.

Please post the following:
Video memory size
Internet connection speed
Maximum Bandwidth setting
Cache size (as above)
Texture memory size (if Windlight)
FPS (Ctrl+Shift+1)
Ping Sim
Packet loss

What is the health of your hard drive, i.e.:
De-frag needed?
Free space?

When you did a system restore, how far back did you go? Was before you started having problems?
