uploading/deleting problems

Would appreciate anyone telling me why I am getting this, and how to stop it:

When I open File /Upload image, look in My Pictures for what I want to upload and click on it. While its waiting to upload, my mini map goes red and I can't move so have to relog. It doesn't happen on every upload but enough to be really irritating.

Also, recently I've been trying to clear out my inventory. I have found that sometimes when deleting an item I crash. A friend of mine is also getting the same problem so not my computer to blame.

Any help would be appreciated

Hrm... my first suspicion would be a software firewall or internet security program, if you have one. They seem to cause most timeouts/disconnects. See this page:
