HELP. possibility it is firewall, dont know, can you continually crash from a firewall?

Sorry you're having so many problems. Not exactly the best introduction to SL.

First question - do you have shadows turned off? There is currently a bug that causes constant crashes if shadows are on. Also, some people are reporting the same thing with shine, which is tragic since shine is the most important view enhancement there is. Not many people are having the shine problem, but it's definitely affecting a few. I'd suggest turning every option off, then see if you're stable. If you are, turn them back on one at a time and you'll find your culpret. I don't think your problem is firewall related, but since you asked, here is wher you can find the right configuration.

Also, have you tried calling tech support? You mentioned E-mail isn't working, which sounds pretty strange, but LL does have telephones. Give them a ring.

As for live help, it's not suprising they may not have been able help in this case. They're great folks, but not all of them are tech savvy. They're just residents like you and me, and like all residents, live helpers have diverse backgrounds. Some have technical expertise, some don't, and some think they know more than they do, just like the rest of us. The only qualification they all have in common is a simple desire to be helpful which is strong enough that they have volunteered. You gotta love and admire them for being so giving of their time (and their patience), but don't expect them to be more than they are. They don't work for LL, and they are absolutely not the tech support department.

Anyway, if my suggestions don't work, by all means call LL. That's what they're there for. Good luck.

1. Make sure Latest service pack is Installed (XP2)
2. Uninstall SecondLife, reboot, re-install SecondLife

Impossible To Play SL

Have you tried changing locations and/or computers to connect with SL? Do you have friends that play? If so, check with them on their hardware, OS, and internet connection. You should not be having trouble with XP.

What kind of internet connection are you using? A 3Mbit high speed cable connection works.

When you re-install SL, be sure to "search" for ALL Second Life files and folders lurking in your system. Trash them all.

Hope this helps.

Service pack 2 should be irrelevant. I've got 2 computers sitting right next to eachother here. One is not compatible with SP2, but it still runs SL just fine. If you do install SP2, make sure your system can handle it before you do. Not every machine can.

As for the E-mail thing, I have no idea why it wouldn't get through. All I can think of is perhaps LL's mail server doesn't like something your mail server is embedding into the message. Try opening up a new free E-mail account with Juno or Yahoo or something and send it from there.

A complete upgrade of the underlying operating system is irrelevant?

Hmm, interesting..

I actually had to uninstall xp sp2 to play SL. With it installed, I suffered from freezes and could not run SL (and no it wasnt the firewall either).

Before you install sp2 make sure all your other drives are upto date first, including your motherboard firmware...
