Verifying Protocol Version

I was loged into SL and i guess crashed yet again, now i get this message
Verifying Protocol Version
Unable to connect to Sl
they system my be down please try again in a few minutes, or click help for advice and a link to the system status web page, i clicked help for advice and nothing happened, i know SL is not down as it says 5,595 users online i have been trying to get back in for almost 45 minutes now, so what is the problem and how do i fix it, and i have cleared cache 4x or more thank you for any advice you can give me

Did this just start happening? Any more clues or details you can provide?

When this happened to me--I found out it was my router getting "clogged" up. Perhaps try turning your computer and Internet devices off for a few minutes and back on again.
