When alt-tabbed out of SL, how do I keep the orange blinking SL button from appearing on my Windows bar when someone sends an IM in game? Thanks.  |

That isn't a SL function, thats a OS api call... I'm not sure you can turn that off as the OS alerts you to a programme requiring your attention deliberately.

Use Tweak UI

AWM Mars is correct, it's a Windows function. Download "Tweak UI" from Microsoft's website. You can customize your UI with it. But be sure to know what you are doing!
Taskbar focus can be edited under General -> Focus.
