NOT>>!!!!!! Again

I had figured out one problem I was running good for about i week ... Then things afre going hey wire .....
I will loog in and crash .... I will log in half way rez and crash ....I will log in rez and then click on any button to do any thing and crash .... This is happening every where for me ... I had sent a e-mail to sl ... but would like some advice it any one has some ...
I have all the updates truned off my shadows ... i have even took out and installed sl again with out no help on it ... What is it with all these packets ... DANG....and ARGGGGGG

was reading the logs for sl and these are some of my concerns .... there is misp placed paqckets ... and ever rejected packets .... ect ..well you can see .. IM GOING TO CRY !!!!

I had a system very much like yours, and I was having major crashing issues.

Things I did to make it better:
1) complete uninstall and reinstall... remove all traces of SL from you computer. Get rid of preview, main, and everything else related.

2) check your AGP driver, update them if needed.

3) check your Video drivers, update as needed

Packet loss is nothing new, in fact it is quite common. I would run with the 3 things I suggested and see if that helps. Also, you may want to check on the heat in your machine, I know I had issues with overheating my video card.

OpenGL 2.0.0 - SL , doesnt seem to go to well with some 5xxx nvidia's.

Frankly that's a pretty low-end graphics card for running SL. My 5500 has hardware support for DirectX 9, but isn't even close to providing adequate performance. In fact, I've had exactly the problem you're describing with early 1.7 Preview releases.

The 71.89 driver is a bit more stable than the previous two releases. If that doesn't help...other things to try:

Go back to the ultra-stable 61.77 driver. I had to do that a few months ago to solve a driver incompatability with EQ2 which was causing BSOD. It worked. (Though now I'm out of EQ2 and using the 71.89 driver.)

Try lowering the AGP multiplier from "x4" or "x2", down to "x1".

Try setting the AGP Aperture size in your system's BIOS setup to 256mb.

Last, try disabling AGP rendering.

well got a hold if nvidia and told them what was going on ... and told them what comp spec were and and what program i run .... smiles ..they told me .. of a bettrer card to get ... to make sl run better ... just waiting for it to come in a ordered it today ..lol

Been there, done that. I've bought newer, better graphics cards twice just for SL. Though, what helped more than anything was maxing out the RAM on the motherboard.

Forgot to mention in previous post...in case you haven't tried this, it sometimes helps to go into SL Preferences and reduce the amount of video card memory used down to 32mb (not 16mb, which tends to create more problems than it solves). Rendering would look a bit less complex and smooth, but it's less likely to overwhelm your hardware.

You'll want to use the latest version of Driver Cleaner to totally uninstall old driver files before installing a driver for the new card:

Also, it's best to uninstall SL completely, then download and install the latest version whenever you do a hardware upgrade.

BTW, I'd love to hear which card they suggested...inquiring minds want to know.

The card they Recommened for my system Is a GeForce6600 gt Video x8 APG 128mb ... this is the one they had told me that will will my my comp ... mi8ght work with others i dont know ...

This is just the one they said ... affter i gave them the run down of my whole system here ...

hey! black adder Question if ya now ... when i get the new card ... i have the Driver cleaner okies ... but under the options i get .4 things from Nvidia do i get rid of then all the 4 opintions are
1 Nforce chipset
2 Nvidia
3 Nvidia Strero
4 Nvidia WDM

I swear they do this just to confuse us ... lol Why cant they just give use one optinions to choose froms ...

Have to keep working at it till find the right spot /and or method to use .. to make ever thing good ...Instead of all the BS wouldnt you like thjis is what you need so get this .. The short answer is: yes, get rid of all of them. The stereo and WDM drivers only work with the exact video driver version they were made for.

And yes, we are supposed to be confused.
