Hi team!

Fabbie here- just a resident addicted to SL. Today i discovered a new bug-i guess its a bug, at least.
I am on a different compy than usual, but it does meet all requirements. So lemme get to it:
Second Life has started to get stuck-not frozen, not crashed, but STUCK, the symptoms are:
-halted rezzing (only a few prims are visible, but you can see your av)
-my av cannot walk, it can only look around
-text is not at all visible, but sometimes others can hear me
-it happens after logging in, TP's, dancing and using interactive objects--like scripts that offer notecards.
-It will take several tries logging back on- mostly i log right back into stuck-mode, other times i cannot log on at all, but finally i will get in and stay in.

I spoke to Altruista Linden about it, whom requested that I make a report here :)
I've also noticed particles acting very strange--they sometimes look like actual "snow" on TV.....that weirded me out heh.
This all only started today, so maybe its- well I don't have the slightest clue what it could be but...Good Luck! hahaha

Another lil issue i noticed (and this may have already been mentioned, so forgive me) a bug that shows up as big black strips on clothing. like half of a pant-leg, or an entirely black arm.... o.0

Well, that's about all i have to say about that, sooo, I'm going to try really hard to get back in again, heh.

Many Thanks,
Fabala Snakeankle

to add to that:

I just attempted to log in again, and i was able to move, and fly. I could see my friends' names, and the sim was beginning to rez.
I flew over to land in the center of it all, and right in the middle of flying, i get stuck, pardon me, I meant STUCK, lol. anyways, it may be gagging on me moving while its still trying to rez.......

This strikes me as two separate problems.

The first - the render issues - are likely caused by your video card's multitexture drivers. I run Second Life on both my desktop and my laptop, and my laptop in particular gets this sort of problem often.

The only recourse you have there is to seek out more current drivers for your video card. You could also upgrade... but I have no idea what you're using.

Alternately, this "render bug" can happen when corrupt data is beamed to your client and not handled. It can cause your clothing to display an improper texture for a while... but this is usually self-correcting.

-----

The second problem - sluggish logins, "lag" - sounds like a network problem. This can occur at your end, or more typically, at the sim's end. Many users fail to take proper care of the sims in Second Life - which leads to a heck of a lot of problems.

Good luck! :)

I'm having similar problems since last night

Fabala,

I partly have the exact same problem you described and it started last night in the middle of a Tringo game. Suddenly I would freeze, missed a couple of pieces, then the game went on normally, but no one else had experienced a lag. First I thought it was a problem with my ISP, but my ping and everything else was and is just fine.

The problem I'm still having is that when I log in to my home I can look around fine, all textures and prims load normally. BUT I can only move in slow motion, i.e. I try to walk forward and by the time I see myself starting to walk (I stop walking that moment) I have already fallen over a cliff, which I only see a couple of seconds later. Also I cannot teleport properly. I keep landing in nomans land and cannot move at all. :( Maybe this is due to stuff not loading and it looks fine at my house because stuff is in my cache? Anyway, it really sucks! Last night I was hoping it would be a temporary problem, but it continues today.

I just came here to report it. However, reading your post I will try logging in and off, maybe this works for me too and I get a chance at moving normally.

Off I go...

Logging in and out didn't help, this bug is not going away. :(
It doesn't matter where I teleport, so it's not a problem with the sim, but it's also not a problem with my internet speed or connection quality, at least not in general.
Anyone got any ideas? Help please!!

This is typically a network issue that's somewhere on your connection or your PC. This is especially true if you have ANY kind of firewall/internet security installed (even if it worked fine before). See this page:

You might also have a bad Last Location; try logging in from My Home instead.

Have you been able to use SL on your laptop without any problems in the past? How long has this been happening? If you've NEVER been able to use it without these problems, try Lee's advice on ensuring your firewall lets your data through.

I have a couple of voodoo fixes for these problems

go back to windows by pressing windows key on keyboard this works for me
sometimes I have to do this a couple of times in a row

also I reset my graphic card to lowest resolution 800X600

my drivers are updated these problems are new to me this week so good luck

SL should be advertised as a pc tweaking game the technical challenges are the goal here

I had these kind of problems, just before I took a look at the free space on my hard drives. Low disk space and heavy fragmentation will cause these problems. I since keep at least 30GB free space and keep the frag % below 5%, and haven't had any problem login in or any lag since. My settings in world are 1Gb of texture space and 256KB in video mem. Also >=512MB of total RAM.

I defrag everyday and my disk space is average 90% so we each have to sort through and devise our own tweaks
