Heyas, posted this in RA but never really got an answer, and thinking about it I figure this is a better place to post it.

I've been running the Windlight viewer on max settings since it was re-released, and its been working just fine. I updated last night, and was able to log in once, though the login screen was already messed up partially (It had everything outlined in black and weird colours).

I had to relog, and then my problem arose. I click the SL WL icon, and then it boots up, but the login screen is blank. I get the spinning SL icon and the 'Loading...' as it loads the background image and any news, but then that disappears. Everything else is just black, with no reason far as I can tell. The bottom row of buttons are gone (THe login, preferences, login location, the name and pass fields, everything). I don't get any sort of background. I have the top taskbar with file and all that, but they are no use, as I cant find a way to use them to help me in this problem.

My computer was built by me, I can give specs if needed when I get home at about 2:30 SLT

Any ideas?

=(

OH! And normal viewer SL works fine

The latest Windlight client is based on 1.18.6, so it has the new Web-based login screen (and, incidentally, the age verification stuff). There is no preferences button on the login screen any more anyway, but Ctrl-P or Edit->Preferences from the menu should still be ways to get there.

If you can get into the preferences that way, the browser cache (under the Web tab) might be worth clearing to see if you can get past this hump.

Not that it matters that much, but out of curiosity, have you also been trying out the recent RCs, and have those been letting you log in? (edit to add: or maybe it does matter if you have some kind of firewall thing getting in the way of the web page portion)

I have and yes they have...

I'll try that when I get home, didn't realize it was using a web-based login now, bleh... my internet was being crap last night so that could be it.

And I saw the preferences button here before the update, just haven't been able to see things to know if its their after =P

Thankies much, I'll clear when I get home

If you can't see the login form using the viewer, you can go here to log in:

http://secondlife.com/app/login/go.php

This seems to launch the Windlight viewer (for now?)

You can bypass the logon screen entirely by using a direct link. Right click on your desktop Second Life icon and select Create Shortcut then right click the new shortcut then select Properties. You will see a window labeled Target with a box that says something to the effect:

"C:\Program Files\SecondLifeWindLight\SecondLifeWindLight.exe" -settings settings_windlight.xml -channel "Second Life WindLight" -set SystemLanguage en-us

(you will likely only see the last bit in the window) You will need to add this to the end of that line without the quotation marks, "-login Your Name password" with a very important space in front of the "-". Example:

"C:\Program Files\SecondLifeWindLight\SecondLifeWindLight.exe" -settings settings_windlight.xml -channel "Second Life WindLight" -set SystemLanguage en-us -login Master Baiter 321spooge

Where "Master " is the first name, "Baiter" is the Last name and "321spooge" is the password. Down side to doing this is whenever there is an update you will need to use the login screen as the shortcut will fail. It will start working again without modification when you load the new update. You can make a shortcut for every alt you have and have instant access from your desktop. Add "-multiple" (no quotes and add a space) and you can run multiple alts at the same time.
