Has the far clipping been made more aggressive in 1.8? When I look from one corner of a sim to the other corner, I see that nothing at all is drawn past my "draw distance." Just blankness. Not fogged land. Not less detailed land. Nothing. If I turn in place, I can watch the land being clipped as I turn. It is jarring and ugly to watch.
I'd love to show you a picture of it, but the forums seem to be rejecting picture uploads right now. I'm comforted by an error message that tells me "an email has been dispatched to our tech support staff." Ah well.
I'm thinking this change might be an attempt to better follow the "draw distance" parameter in preferences. Previous to this change, lowering the draw distance seemed to be ignored by the client. You had to log off and back on to force the client to honor a lower draw distance. Now, it seems that the client is *very* aggressive in actually honoring the specified draw distance.
Lindens? Is this what's happening?

disable far clip

Ok, I've compared the graphics in 1.7.4(7) and 1.8. There seems to be no diff in clipping between the two. In both, with far clipping enabled and a draw distance of 128, clipping is very aggressive. It's far more aggressive than I remember it, the last time I checked.
I realize that far clip is disabled by default (I uninstalled and reinstalled to check). So, I guess this is a non-issue. Still, I'm wondering if clipping has been made more aggressive when far clip is enabled.

In 1.6, I seem to remember clipping slicing prims in half. Now, it seems like entire prims are clipped. Perhaps this is what you're noticing.

Hmmm... paulie, I reckon I know what you're talking about. I've noticed faster "decay dropoff" of things too when I fly around. For example, in Blumfield and West Haven, I flew in circles, or from one end to another, and I saw houses get clipped pretty suddenly. I kept flying back for minutes on end to see if the "memory" got any better. Perhaps this is done with some performance gains in mind? These weren't just prims, but seemingly, whole linksets. I've arrived at this conclusion partially 'cuz doors and lights and other small objects that aren't linked are still "remembered". Something odd in the renderer:

From: Octal Khan and yes, it seems 1.8 snapshots arent getting out correctly to wherever they are going via email...? O, this is expected. Preview Grid doesn't have outbound communications. I asked about this in Preview 1.6, hehe I remember fondly.
