Deeding Land

I'm still unclear on deeding land to the group, so let me ask my question this way.

If I own a group and I want to give members of this group the ability to create and drop items on my land, I've been told I have to deed my land to those people in my group.

So now, this lets them have to own my land just to have that freedom???? Okay, so if that is the case and I deed my land to the group but only make them 'members', do they still get to keep my land if I eject them from the group?

It puzzles me why they suddenly have to own part of my land just to drop prims. I could easily just turn on that option to 'create' in the About Land option, but then griefers could come along, drop a ton of crap on my land and have all my own items returned to my inventory :( can someone who is well versed on this please answer me?

I looked at the F1 key and read up on it but it's not clear on whether i get to keep my land if i have to kick a person who only has 'member' status in the group.

Thanks in advance

I have to add something, my gf and i run a 2 simd residential community here.

On both sims, the land is deeded to the same group.

On the sims, we have roughly about 60 subdivded plots.

Just now, i get a new house ready and realise the plot i drew months ago does not totally cover the house.

No problem right? ill just join that messed up plot to another and subdivide it a nice new plot- WROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG

Instead, i get a message telling me only the owner can. I am the owner, so im assuming this means ineed to reclaim all the land. In otherwords, apparently if your land is group owned no one can subdivide and join land, whether youre the owner, or have officer capabilities.

Im not about to go through the trouble to redraw one plot, and im not really sure how to do it either. before this update, we had an issue and had to change the group our land was previously deeded to. we had to first JOIN EVERY SINGLE PLOT, now, i can not even join anything.

with 'reclaim land' dont i have to claim each plot at a time? if so, this is going to cause a ton of objects to get returned to either myself, or some residents.

i really dont understand the purpose of this change, what was the purpose????

This is the biggest pile of BS i have ran into. Not to mention the land i rent where the owner deeded my plot to group and told me it was ok to subdivide and join as i see fit....guess i cant do that now. so what? the owner needs to come down to my plot, turn auto return OFF, reclaim his land, subdivide it for me, deed it back to my group, and turn auto return back on?????????????????????

please someone tell me i am misunderstanding and theres a much easier fix

This is actually unrelated to the original problem, but is a side effect of a mistake made in the 1.12 release... they changed the rules on *island* sims only, so only the *estate* owner can change how plots are subdivided.

I'm at a complete loss as to what the advantage of having to go back to the estate owner for ever change in boundaries is, even if they fix the problem where the estate owner has to reclaim all the land to do it. I haven't recieved a logical explanation of this restriction, either. LL has said that it was to make things easier for people like you, who rent sims... apparently they're concerned that someone might subdivide their land and you'd have to put the boundaries back when they quit renting... so instead they want to make you have to change the boundaries any time a renter needs it.

Please let Linden Labs know that you would much rather have to occasionally fix boundaries *one time* at your convenience than continually change them over and over when you and the renter can get together to arrange it. :)

Heh, someone's managed to thoroughly lead you astray. What you do is make sure you're the only person in the group with rights to sell, subdivide, or abandon land (officers normally have that ability, but you can separate that out into a new role now). Then you deed the land to the group... not the individuals.

Then once this is done, you can set autoreturn on the land, with a short timeout. That will let people create temporary objects (like the effects from Starax' wand) but only objects belonging to the group will stay longer than one minute (or whatever you set).

There's even more sophisticated things you can do with the new group roles, but this is easiest.

You will still own the land, through being the only group member who has the rights to modify the land. You do NOT have to turn the land over to individual members of the group.
