Can Someone help me? I've been playing for a while on an old computer, and everything seems to be working pretty good, and while back i bought this brand new computer
which exceeds the minimum reqs. for second life pretty well, but when i play
the game it is VERY choppy, so i havent been playing much. The only thing i
can think of that was better on the older computer was that the internet
connection was cable, not dsl like i have now...but it couldn't affect it
that much could it? I also have a large inventory in-game, could that
also slow it down drastically? Please help, MY PC specs are:

eMachine T6212
AMD Athlon 64 Processor
3200+
1.99 GHz, 384 MB of RAM
Physical Address Extension
DSL Internet Connection
Video Card: MSI Radeon Xpress 200 series w/ 64 MB

Is there something wrong?

Some suggestions

1. Boost your ram to 1,000 MB
2. Get a Nvidia 5200 card with 128MB Video Ram
3. Switch to Cable.

Those might get you going.

1: Update your Drivers, all of them, Video most importantly I think.

2: Your video card should be fine but upgrading to 128mb card may improve performance.

3: Turn down graphics. Your card can't handle it, your Processor and Ram are fine but that video card isn't up to alot of high end graphics even from SL (which I can say aren't top of the line but are up there for alot of cards). SL requires alot of video card memory because of all the different textures loaded at one time. Farclip, turning down graphic detail, removing extra effects like shine reduce the memory needed by the card.

4: Your DSL connection is fine, if it were solely a network issue things would be just slow to rez. Network has very little to do with visual choppiness, if its twitchy movement then you may want to consider a new connection. A way to test to know which it is stand still till everything is rezed, then rotate your camera, if thats jerky then its your video, updating drivers/turning down settings should help this, if its smooth then walk a bit, if thats twitchy then it maybe your internet connection.

Good Luck.

I found out yesterday you can increase your fps by killing Terrain Detail. Set it to NONE. You can leave the other detail sliders like AV and Object Detail, but Terrain Detail seems to be a real frame killer for some reason.

I figured out a simple solution! This worked for me atleast, in Slpreferences turn off the option that says it make the game faster... It dosn't. Thats what I did and now Sl works great!

Which option was that, perchance? A few of them say "faster".
