Corrupt/Randomly Changing Textures?

I've been preparing to build at Acontia (112, 18) and have encountered a strange problem. There is a wall along the adjoining property with a brick/climbing vines texture. However, after some amount of time in the vicinity, it starts randomly changing to other textures in rapid succession. These include solid black or other colors, textures from other objects in the vicinity (including my face and clothes!) and others that were clearly made by someone although I have never seen them in SL myself.

It always starts with the wall, but after a while it seems to spread to other objects, including my avatar. If I teleport to another sim my avatar seems to eventually go back to normal, but I will still see textures here and there that change/flash. Not all of them, just a few and I can detect no pattern.

I tried completely reinstalling SL, changing my video settings several times, and wondering if it wasn't a video card problem changed to my other computer (which I almot never play SL on) and the same thing happened within minutes. I even managed to capture a movie of the phenomenon which I can post somewhere if it would be helpful. I don't know if something is wrong with that wall texture, with my account, or if I'm suffering from some kind of virtual psychosis. If anyone can offer an explanation/fix I would be most appreciative.

geeeeezus... i found out why

these walls are using 2048x2048 textures, 16.5 mb size!, wich is total overkill and some vid cards will chocke on that.

2048x2048???

I didn't think it's possible to upload such big textures (and it shouldn't be).

Is there anything I can do to work around this? Perhaps build a wall so I can't see the offending texture from my point of view? I may ask the owner to tone down the wall. Is there any kind of Linden policy on such matters?

Wont work if you cover it up, SL downloads pretty much anything in your range and keeps it, (not for long tho lol?) only way to fix that is to get the owner to upload a smaller version of that wall, 2048 is overkill, 512x512 is what id use max in SL size is 10 times smaller

IM them, and hope they can agree

ok to ask the silly question on that readout you showed how can you tell which texture is which. I have several that show on mine at home and I would like to track them down to change them but don't know which they are.

The only way I know to find offending textures, Darkness, is to go into edit, choose "select texture" and click on suspect textures. The one you have selected will become highlighted by boldface type, in the texture list generated by ctrl-shift-3. If you select prim instead, all the textures associated with that prim will be highlighted, which is a faster way to close in on the offending textures. Thili's screen-capture shows how the highlighting usually appears. It works that way for entire objects, too; it tends to get messy with more than a couple of prims in the object, though.

<.< well thats how it used to work yeah, before you could choose a side of a prim, it would glow up, now it dont, but it appears anyway just in same color as rest (greenish)look for a texture that suddenly appear, or trying to download
