Often have this problem with updates, everytime I want to log on I must redownload the new version and reinstall. It keeps insisting I download the new version no matter how many times I have already done it. A vicious cycle, really irritating. How do I get around this problem? Please no-one say reinstall....

I wonder if it is simply because there is a new version to download (lately, there has been one per day
 ).This only happened to me once on a Mac, quite a while ago, and the trick was to delete the Second Life folder, download the latest version from LL (directly from the SL download page), and reinstall again. It seems that the version for the automatic download was "broken" in some way at that time (over a year ago, I think), but since that affects almost everybody in SL, it's usually quickly fixed by LL. _____________________

I can't get into SL because everytime i try it prompts me to download the latest version, which always crashes out so i have to download SL from the website.

These kinds of errors while autoupdating are often the result of third-party software (typically antivirus or firewall) intercepting our updater. We haven't been able to find an effective solution as of yet. The workaround continues to be to manually update at http://secondlife.com/download
