I noticed that my devices that send mail to outside hosts have suddenly stopped working today. I've sent test mails to accounts at DreamHost and Hotmail and they have not been received. I have tried this in Uba and Isora. I understand there are also problems in Oak Grove. Can anyone else confirm this? LL, is there an ETA for when this will be fixed?

edit: I just got one through to DreamHost but it looks like it took about 15 minutes to get there. No luck with Hotmail yet. Usually anything sent to DH arrives in a couple of seconds.

Looks like it's running at normal speed again.

Seems flakey to me. I've only recieved one out of the four emails that should have been sent to me today.

I spoke w/ FlipperPA about it and he mentioned he'd seen some flaky behavior as well.

And just to add to the confusion, my problems with outbound email may be due to a race condition in my code -- a race condition that shows up when the object is rezzed by code, but not when it's rezzed from inventory.

It seems flaky in only a few certain sims (or more specifically, the machines they are hosted on)

I've asked Andrew Linden to have a detailed look into the problem, he suggested it may be due to the rolling upgrade from Debian woody to sarge, but cant say for certain other than he's looking into the problem at the moment.

Not sure if they are related but Cristiano's been having email issues from SL as well.

The problem definitely seems to be sim-specific. The two sims where I noticed it (Keswick and Elite Island) were running properly shortly after I bug reported them.

Also the problem appears to be specific to llEmail(), as I am still receiving offline IMs via email just fine. I assume offline IMs have a different mechanism to get the messages out though.

There were some servers that were refusing SSH connections, but were still running a simulator process. We had to manually go to the colocation facility yesterday to fix the servers we could detect. We think there was a correlation between flakey mail and non-accessible servers.

If anyone knows of a sim that is currently suffering from spotty email please let me know which sim so I can investigate. Thanks.

Well, according to my logs, one email from Davenport this morning arrived about 20 minutes and 30 second late, and sometime between 12:37:48 and 15:40:41, something happened that caused a 2-hour timer to fire an hour and three minutes late, but I don't know if that's related.

Also, at some point (I think sometime between 4AM and 7AM), the XML-RPC backend server was unavailable from my computer.

Hmmm, do we believe that testing this on the production grid versus the preview grid is the wisest course of action?
