I downloaded and installed Second Life after running nothing happens absolutely nothing "detecting hardware", and thats all

It should at least start up and go to the log-in screen. And if the grid is down, it will say (most of the time) that the grid is down for maintenance. If it never even makes it to the log-in screen...you may need to re-install, or install new drivers, or buy an new computer.

Try and step back to 7.5, I've seen a few other cases that this helped with on here in the past.
