I downloaded and installed Second Life
after running nothing happens
absolutely nothing
"detecting hardware", and thats all

Right now, the system is down for maintenance. Or did this happen before today?

It should at least start up and go to the log-in screen. And if the grid is down, it will say (most of the time) that the grid is down for maintenance. If it never even makes it to the log-in screen...you may need to re-install, or install new drivers, or buy an new computer. :)

Try and step back to 7.5, I've seen a few other cases that this helped with on here in the past.
