I'm thinking of buying a Dell Inspiron E1705 laptop with the Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 cpu, and the NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900 GS video card.
Will this configuration work well with Second Life?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts!
(p.s., if you have an answer, could you post it promptly? I'm thinking of ordering the laptop today before a major coupon expires. *smile*)

Sounds like an excellent choice. Everybody else will be jealous.

I believe so.... make sure you goto laptopvideo2go.com to get your drivers.... it took me a while to figure out how to get my Geforce FX 5600go's drivers updated.... also i got two Geforce 7900 GTX's running through SLI on my desktop.... WONDERFUL CARD LINE! Hope you enjoy it as much as I do! Also, as a side note.... SecondLife has troubles in between updates with the newest NVIDIA drivers.... says they are incompatible.... if this happens with you try rolling back to an older version. Save you some trouble.

Kell, I just made the same purchase today. I have a couple of business trips coming up, including SLCC, and I realized I could not leave my Second Life behind. I am hoping this laptop runs SL at least as well as my current desktop, which is about 3 years old (though I do have a newer nVidia card). I thought about going for a Dell XPS laptop, but I couldn't justify the additional cost.

I have a laptop with a Geforce Go 7600 and a T7200 processor. In Windows, I get 30-60fps, and in linux, I get 50-90fps. I think that'll be an excellent choice for a laptop to run SL.

Oh good, that takes away a bit of the worry. I ordered a T7400 with the Go 7900 and I got the faster memory and faster hard drive too. I also ordered a new desktop ... so I am into Dell deep this month

From: Persephone Milk Did you order one too? Nope, not yet, and may not for a while. I'm keeping an eye out for a major promotion (like $700 off of a higher-end Inspiron) before deciding to buy. Anyway, I look forward to hearing how Dell Inspirons with the Go 7900 GS and the Intel dual core processors work on SL.

Hi I know this thread might well be dead now but I thought I would give it a go anyway. I have an NVIDIA GeForce GO 7300 card but SL keeps telling me my graphics card is unsupported or out of date. I have tried rolling back but to no avail. Anyone got any ideas? I've never even been inside SL yet and am desperate to give it a go. Boo... Any help would be gratefully received (I don't really know much about computers either) Thanks.x

You are aware the Go series use shared system memory as well as a puny 'dedicated memory'?
