After the upgrade my 3 month old laptop locks up badly. SL claims it needs opengl version 2.0......intel does not support it for this adapter, only 1.4 .

I'm out of ideas, can anyone help?

Not really a 'SL' problem more a gaming problem. The intel graphics chipsets are NOT gaming chipsets. SL, technologically is a game, as such you need gaming grade hardware to run it properly.

Which is NOT to say that SL "WILL NOT RUN" on Intel graphics.. I've been running the SL client since about 1.6 on a Dell laptop with Intel 915 video and it works surprisingly well. Now, of course, I keep expecting one of the multitudes of LL tweaking/tinkering will break this, and frankly, I'm surprised that it hasn't happened already (knock_on_wood).. I was half-way expecting it to happen back in
the big 1.7->1.8 fiasco.. But then I'm an IT support person, and I keep my machines right up to date on everything, so that could be the reason I've been so lucky with the Intel video.. I'm gonna cry when it finally does stop working, since I spend a LOT of time in wifi-equiped coffeeshops and I'd die without my SL fix... sigh!!

The bottom line-- YMMV!!
