Help!

I updated to the latest version but I can't even get the application to launch. I click the icon, on the desktop, the task bar and even directly from the directory and I get nothing.

I uninstalled everything, cleared the cache and temp file folder and reinstalled from scratch but still no luck. Any ideas?

I have been on SL now for several versions, coming up to 2 years this summer, and I have never had this kind of problem before. My PC setup is the same and everything was working fine when I was on this morning.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I'm having the SAME EXACT PROBLEM AS YOU!

Finally, someone is in the same boat as me!

What happens to me is the cursor displays a "working" status, then it goes blank. I checked the Task Manager... Second Life doesn't appear in the Applications section but it *does* appear in the Processes section as SecondLife.exe, using 0 CPU and a total of approximately 10,288 K of Mem Usage after about 8 to 10 seconds. It is completely stopped after that. The little "Loading Second Life..." and "Detecting hardware..." boxes never come up, either.

I tried *Every* possible solution I can think of. No avail. I had an appointment at 1:30 PM SLT today, and it involved a good piece of land... so I am really pissed. If Lindens or other users have ANY possible solution, please tell us!

Hello--who else is having a problem like this? And this problem persisted between restarts of your computer?

You mention you've already done the basic step of uninstalling and reinstalling SL, but what about making sure your graphics card drivers are updated to the newest version (on the off-chance this might have something to do with it)?

You can always contact our Support for help, and I hope you guys can come back in soon.

To the best of my knowledge, this has absolutely no relevance to video drivers... sorry, that excuse won't work this time.

Here is a list of what I tried, somewhat in order:

Checked Applications and Processes in Task Manager
Rewrote SL
Uninstalled SL
Installed SL from website
Reinstalled/updated graphics card driver (just in case, did nothing)
Checked Required Hardware (compatible, also fits in Suggested)
Reset/Restarted computer 10 times
Removed ALL programs
Installed only SL, Firefox, Office and Photoshop
Ran a spyware check
Checked for viruses
Ran an adware check
Defragmented hard drive
Ran Disk Cleaner
Tried to do System Restore (worked, did nothing)

Is there ANYTHING ELSE????

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!
I've spent 6 hours trying to fix the problem, and I JUST DID! YAY!
I figured out that I accidentally defragmented the wrong hard drive...

So, DEFRAGMENT YOUR HARD DRIVE CORRECTLY AND FOLLOW ALL THE PROBLEMS ABOVE IF YOU ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM!

I also get a flash of the little hour glass as if it is trying to launch the program but nothing happens. SL doesn't show up as running in my prossess in task manager though.

I have installed the latest video driver for ATI, 6-5_xp-2k_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_32464, which worked fine before today's update.

I will try and defrag my drive but I have also done that a few days ago. I will run SpyBot and Adaware in case something did get on my machine.

Any other suggestions in the meantime would be appreciated.

I have a similar issue... at this point it freezes just as a launch the software. So i get the program button up and then it opens a box as if it will launch the login screen as normal.. then it goes black and freezes. If I try to close the SL app it goes into Not Responding.

I updated drivers less than a week ago when the last big update happened. All my virus and spyware stuff is up to date. And, have uninstalled, reinstalled and restarted my machine MANY times.. and it still persists...

help.

I have the same problem. I reinstalled Second Life and get the "Detecting hardware..." box followed shortly after by the "Second Life Crash Logger" window. I cleaned and defragmented my hard drive just last week and have always run Second Life flawlessly on my machine. (2.6 GHz Athlon 64 4000+, ATI Mobility Radeon X600 128MB (1/2 Dedicated), 1 GB RAM, 27 out of 89 GB free on my HDD)

Turned computer off and went to bed. When I got up this morning it worked. Strange.

It won't launch for me either. Was fine on Tuesday, downloaded/installed the latest version today, tried to log in, all I get is the Windows bar at the top, it appears on the task bar, but all there is in-between is my desktop !

I've uninstalled, re-downloaded/installed, rebooted several times, defragged, rebooted again, no change. It shows as running in my Task Manager but it doesn't work.

Make sure you're removing some temp files that might be left behind as well.

Just follow these steps.

I've been trying again. I followed all of the steps to uninstall and rebooted.
I went into my registry and deleted all links to SecondLife, redownloaded and installed SL but still no luck.

Will there be another update this Wednesday?

I've been having this problem since 1.10.1.0 also; won't launch. Nothing consistantly obvious in the logs (I send-crash-report anyway).

FX5200, latest drivers installed, machine rebooted, SL nuked-and-reinstalled, cache cleared, settings cleared, registry even cleaned-up, and in desparation I even tried changing gpu_table and featuretable to turn off everything. I can still launch 1.10.0 just fine, though of course it can't log in.

FWIW, preview-1.10.2 has the same problem still.

Just for fun I uninstalled 1.10.1.0 and installed a copy of 1.8.0.9 I had saved in one of my backups.

I ran it and SL was launched, I logged in and then got the updater screen to get the latest version which I did and then the same problem resulted again with SL not launching at all so it is definitely a 1.10.1.0 problem.

Does it no longer accept my ATI Radeon 9000 64MB card? I am in the market for another one but I want to make sure I get one that will work in the future. I only plan on keeping this machine for another year or so and I don't want to go for a very expensive AGP card since my next machine will probably be a PCI Express.

Thanks

I installed the latest sl update when it first came out; everything was fine.

Suddenly lastnight i could not log in. It crashes before it even opens up.

This is ridiculous. I just spent 1200+ USD on a private island and need to get it up for rent by sunday. And I can not log in.

Admittidly im not sure how to check if i have all of my computers latest drivers (Asus w3v) but i did go to the website lastnight and download a lot of new updates for my computer.
