Yeah... I spent 4 hours working on a house that I intended to sell, and it got 100% completely borked beyond repair because of a convenient little glitch. I dunno if anyone else has had problems with this, but try it. Pull out an object consisting of multiple prims with multiple textures, edit it, leave it linked and choose "Select Texture" in the object tab. Highlight an area to texture, click on the texture, choose a texture to apply to it, then hit "Cancel" or "Revert". Watch as the ENTIRE object takes on the texture you had chosen ("Cancel" or takes on the texture you had on that one part ("Revert" . Talk about a bad bug. Normally, I don't complain much about that sorta stuff, but I think a little more time should have gone into testing and troubleshooting v1.6, that's for sure.

You need to check off "EDIT LINKED PARTS" then you can texture like you would before in 1.5

That's the thing. I'm not editing but the texture, not the whole prim. I'm only applying this texture to one side of the prim, not the whole thing. That won't help. I can get around this by dragging the texture out of my inventory and dropping it on the side I want, but it's a major inconvenience. Makes things more difficult than they should be.
Not to mention having the inventory open covers more of the screen, making it hard to manuever the camera to the right spots.

You can also resize your inventory window. It will take some time getting used to how to texture link prims when you only want one face of the prim. Trust me lol. .i was thinking it was a bug to until i checked that off.. After you do it a couple of tiimes.. it will be ok

... I think I'm gonna end up writing my OWN manual to this editor just so folks don't end up confused as to how it works. Because, to me, "Select Texture" should assume it's on a single prim on a single side when you click on a single side of a single prim. Just kinda adds an extra step that wasn't there before, that has to be done every time you change edit modes.
I'll be happier if the next update makes that check box stay checked until you un-check it.

Use Select Texture, when you just want to change the single side that you click (has the white marker on it)...
Use Edit Linked if you want to modify that prim, selecting a texture using this will change that whole prim to the texture, not just a side as select texture does..
If you just edit an object (so prim and all linked parts selected), and select a texture, then the whole thing will get that texture..
Works great, except for the crashing bug using texture right now..but the texture tools using edit linked, or select texture, works fine..

Never had a problem doing in 1.5 what I was trying to do in this new version. *ever*. It's the way I got used to it, and I haven't even been here that long. Had the update mentioned a change in how that particular function worked with the addition of Edit Linked, I would've more easily adjusted to it.
The point isn't how it works, it's the lack of notification of the change making me think it was a really horrid bug. 1.5 assumed you were only editing that one side of the prim if that one side is all you had highlighted for applying a texture. This new version doesn't. And the change wasn't mentioned, as far as all my reading about the changes says.

Don't feel bad, it still sounds like a bug to me. It makes no logical sense. If you hit select texture then you want to edit that one texture (or how many you selected) even if edit linked object is clicked, it shouldn't matter. And if edit linked object just has to override select texture then it should change that one prim. NOT THE WHOLE THING! That makes no sense. That makes anti-sense. Just because this bug only occurs with edit select object checked doesn't mean its not a bug. It just means there is a way around having to deal with it. Like kicking your television to get it to turn on. Just because the TV works after you kick it doesn't mean that nothing is wrong with it.
