In the past hour, within 5 minutes of signing in, I am disconnected from SL - the map turns red. I sign back in, all is fine for about 5 minutes, and then it happens again. Is anyone else experiecing this?

There was a post that appears to have been lost in the Help forum.
If you have shadows turned on, turn it off. There are now four people that has fixed this for them so far (perhaps five, I've not had it on for months).

Yeah, the red map thing indicates a network problem. It's not just a "oops, bad math" deal. I'm not sure what it could be... if you'd noticed it before now, Cris, I'd suggest making sure that your firewall takes into account the new name of the SL executable (secondlife.exe) but I'm pretty sure you'd've seen some evidence of a problem sooner.

I have never had this problem, and did not have it after the 1.6 update either - it started this afternoon. It seems to be most easily reproduceable by trying to search for someone, or give someone inventory. Overall, the stability of SL is horrible for me right now. I can't stay in at all - it has now disconnected me 9 times.
