I just downloaded the new update, and for some odd reason, every time i start the program now, it keeps saying "Second Life is already running, check your task bar for a minimized program, if this presists, reboot" and i've rebooted twice, re-installed the program twice, and it still won't start up. Does anyone else have this problem ?

If there's a file there called SecondLife.exec_marker, delete it. (If you're on a Mac, it's probably the same file, but I have no idea where it would be located.) That should probably solve your problem. If it doesn't, you should probably email support@secondlife.com. |

C:\Documents and Settings\AquaVixen\Application Data\SecondLife\logs
contains two files: debug_info.log SecondLife.log i tried deleting them both, still won't start i've used the game on this laptop before without any issues at all, this didn't happen untill i downloaded the new 18mb update...i don't think i want to be e-mailing support, i've heard from others in-game about how it can take up to a week or more to get a reply. |

I had this same problem - took me a while to figure out and I'm not sure yours is caused by the same thing.
I had a folder called Second Life (not sure if the space was there) for storing stuff for uploads. If this folder was opened (even if minimized in my taskbar) the SL program thought it was already running when I tried to start it. I solved this by making sure that no folders where opened when running the game. I also renamed the folder so that it would not confuse the SL software. Don't know if that will help. I found it odd that this was the case but that's what caused similar problems on my computer. |

Thanks, but that wasn't the problem. Well, now i got SL to open without saying it's running. But it just sits there and halts at "Verifying protocal version" and then eventually comes up saying it can't connect to secondlife servers. My laptop can login fine, but not this machine. (NO i'm not trying to login two characters at the same time). Any input on THIS error ?

Any input on THIS error ? /111/82/32339/1.html If you have a software firewall running on your machine - it reads like your firewall has blocked newview from accessing the Internet. Windows XP firewall: control panel -> windows firewall -> exceptions -> add program [Sedond Life]. Norton Security: -> personal firewall -> configure -> program control -> add [brows to C:\Program Files\SecondLife/newview.exe Those are the only two I know about, others here may know more of them. _____________________
