The status states that the grid is open, yet when I try to log on it says that SL encountered an unexpected problem. Am I the only one or is there actually a problem?

as far as i can tell the grid is up, but only lindens can log in. ppl already in SL can stay unless (or until) the sim they're in reboots and kicks them.

Error: Despite our best efforts, something has gone wrong.
10-08-2006 21:42
Hello everyone!
Six here and I'd like to talk about my own problems, trying to login to SL today. I was planning on attaching some screenshots of the occurences that I experienced just so everyone could 'see' what I was talking about. However, since we aren't able to post attachments (unless the attachments are linked on the internet somewhere), my verbal explanation will have to suffice T.T I tried to login on more than one occassion; into SL today and was denied. A quick look-up on the knowledge-base told me what to do to try and fix the issue. For anyone not aware of the help-solution, you may find it here: http://secondlife.com/knowledgebase/article.php?id=039 If you'd rather try and click your own way to the location of the solution you would click: Support > Knowledgebase > Technical Support > Error Messages > Scroll down to find the best error message that plauges you. In doing this you're going to read: *** Question: When logging into Second Life, I receive an error message that Despite our best efforts, something has gone wrong... which tells me to submit a log file to Support. Answer: Before you contact Support, there are a few things you can try that may allow you to log in. First, completely uninstall Second Life (including temporary cache files) and reinstall. Second, change your login location. Finally, during periods of high login activity (evenings and immediately after a new release of Second Life), this message may indicate that your login attempt has timed out. In this case, wait a few minutes, then try to log in again. *** Well ... lemme tell you all, I did this solution repeatedly and it didn't work. The error message tells you to check: http://www.secpndlife.com/status. I did and the grid was 'UP' and 'OPEN' each time I tried to connect to SL. Not wanting to be faced with downloading SL (for the 5th time) I changed my location, this didn't work either. What's a person to do but think all hope is lost and being forced to submit a bug report and try to get some technical help from a Linden? A restart that's what! Before you make the attempt to bother with getting a Linden involved in your -SL login error- woes, try restarting your computer and SL up again. If you've done all the trouble-shooting solution steps, all the better. Hopefully you'll have no issues logging in. I know that after several attempts at doing the trouble-shooter steps solved nothing for me but doing the steps followed by a re-boot ... maybe that's what really fixed my problem?! Try it and see if it helps, if it doesn't ... contact your local Linden support person and tell 'em what's going on. Just remember, they don't know why you can't connect to the game either so don't yell or scream at them or be writing a mean Email ... that's A) not nice and B) a bad karmic move on your part. Thanks for your time in reading this and I wish you the best in getting your issue resolved, ~Six Dosei |
