mindless complete redownload

What is UP with having to redownload the ENTIRE 20MB client every time an update occurs? So far I've been here 3 days and have had to redownload each client TWICE! Sheesh...don't the SL developers know about INCREMENTAL updates? Learn to patch the darn program instead of mindlessly making users redownload (and reinstall) the whole thing again!

I seem to have dodged all the problems with the Tuesday patch, but this last patch (Thurs 12/16) has hit me HARD.

Crashed to desktop after every teleport. Okay, I can handle that for a bit. Epimetheus (or whatever sim, Tribal Drums) was stable once I got there. Teleported to another event (Maroon), crashed, relogged, flew to the event and then crashed five times in rapid succession. World was fine until the crash to desktop. Some of the times I was in dance animation (bracelet and machine), the others I was just typing into chat.

So, that's my story. No ranting for me.

Yes, but that's besides the point. There's no reason the ENTIRE client needs to be redownloaded unless something has changed that actually AFFECTS the entire client and all of its files. There is a large ..SecondLife\app_settings\static_data.db2 file that could just be patched instead of redownloaded, for example.

Are all the character directory files necessary (at least textures and LLM files--whatever they are) for minor changes (GUI, no less) to chatting? I don't think so...

It's just about being efficient and not being unnecessarily wasteful--like my comments about primitives modelling vs. vert-poly in another thread.

I just updated as of this morning. It worked fine for 20 minutes, then after creating a few more objects it started acting strange. Now I cannot teleport anywhere, early tries seem to work fine with the "requesting teleport" loading screen, but I just stay in the same place, later tries simply tell me I can't teleport and should log off and back in, which I did repeatedly to no avail.

Also I can't take new objects in my inventory. They just disappear >:

[Edit] Now I managed to teleport out and the objects appear in my inventory... must have been the sim.

I just went and installed 1.5.9. Cuz it made me. All the problems I had had in 1.5.8 that eventually seemed to go away after multiple reinstalls are now back.

Can't tp, can't fly over sim borders, can't talk. Crash to desktop every time. *sigh*
