ATi 2900XT R600 and Second Life

Hi Guys,

Does anyone here have any experience to share regarding the use of the new ATi 2900XT R600 and Second Life?

I'm seeing all sorts of rendering issues relating to:

Sun/Moon rendering
Avatar editing menus blacked-out
Avatar themselves blacked-out
First Look Client crashes after approx. 10-secs signed in.
Inability to see ripple effects on water
...and the list goes on.

I have experienced these issues on both the Supplemental 2900XT Driver (available throughout May '07), and the current new release 7.5 Catalysts from June 1, 07.

I'm interested to ask how everybody else who maybe running the ATi 2900XT with Second Life 1.16.0.6 or later are getting on...?

My system specs are as follows (fully-integrated AMD-ATi-based PC for biz reasons):

AMD Athlon64 X2 6000+ 3.0GHz CPU
Asus M2R32-MVP SB3200X Crossfire Motherboard
Asus EAH2900XT 512MB GDDR3 (ATi R600) GPU (only 1 gpu at this time only)
2GB Corsair XMS 6400DDR2 800MHz CL4 Memory
Seagate 500MB RAID 0, SATAII 16MB Cache Hard Drive
Asus DVD-RW DL Optical
Hauppauge Nova-T Digital Tuner
Antec 900 Open-grill Chassis/6x Fans
Antec 650W Power Supply
Quad Boot OS System: Microsoft Windows XP Pro SP2 + Media Centre; Windows Vista Ultimate 32-Bit Edit; OpenSuSE Linux 10.2.

If I had a 2900, I'd remove it and use an 8800gts for a few months until the ATI drivers matured.

You might want to check my thread - ATI Catalyst 7.5 drivers don't work... I suspect we have a related problem.
