The truth is just about any headset will work, you don't need a $80 headset. That $10 set you bought at Wallyworld and you use with Skype or Yahoo will work just fine. USB headsets are a pain in the butt to use with many applications plus that $150 soundcard you bought is bypassed when using a USB hadset, you are using the offbrand built in soundcard made into the headset. USB headsets can only be used on a computer where that $10 set can be used in just about anything with a proper plug in.

Right you are, Kat

I don't really want to be negative about LL's choice of headset here but I am afraid I am going to have to be. I have the same headset they are touting and while the quality and clarity of Plantronics products is absolutely first rate I must say that the design of this particular pair of headphones is very lackluster if not altogether pitiful. After only two weeks of owning these headphones the leather around the earcups began to separate from the interior portion near the speakers. The tension of the foam then pulled that leather up right against the ears. That tiny irritant plays eternal hell with your ears and aggravates you all to be damned.

Believe me, I LOVE Plantronics products. I have used their products for years and they are an industry staple for technical support and telemarketing. You can beat them to death and they will keep on ticking and working clear as a bell. Not so for this offering. While the electronics are all you would expect from Plantronics, you will not enjoy that quality for very long when sharp leather edges rub against your ears for an hour or two.

Buyer Beware.

I agree.
( I also noticed that if you clicked around on the page with the $80 'linden' headset, a bunch of other 'linden' headsets showed up. Seems they are 'pushing' this particular one at the moment. )

Find out just how much voice chat you'll really do before investing in an expensive rig. BUY THE CHEAPEST headset you can find that has those 'normal' little plugs like you find with your stereo or iPod. It'll work just fine.

And there are other options...if you talk very seldom, but listen a lot, you may find that you prefer a standalone microphone and your existing PC speakers.

ALSO: If you have speakers already, you can LISTEN without buying anything. And of course, you can type your CHAT if you have something to say.

If you have a PC without audio jacks for both speakers and microphone, GRIFFIN makes something called the iMic. It plugs into your USB port, and then allow any cheap headset to plug in.
