hi im "Jacey Asp"
im new and very dumb at how things work so far.
ive read some settings guides here. but would rather hear personal advice for my case.
im not worried about lagging others with my builds right now. just myself and my own lag fix.
as im disapointed i see so much lag on this app. its shocking to me.
im doing something wrong i think.
i can play oblivion and the battlefield's at highest settings, yet this game drags me -.-
Ok, first up, you can't compare performance in SL to games like BF and Oblivion. In games, everything you see is set in stone and held on your harddrive. Because of that, the content can be highly optimized and carefully tweaked for maximum performance. SL has a highly dynamic content, therefore it cannot be optimized anywhere near as much as those games. A single SL avatar with curly hair and accessories can have as many polys (flat faces that make up a 3D structure), as an entire SCENE in the games you mentioned. So first, just put those comparisons out of your mind.

im on:

AMD Athlon 64 FX62 Socket AM2, duel 2.8
Unfortunately, SL is one of those Dual-Core unfriendly programs. Many people with dual-core systems, myself included, see our framerates double when we set SL to use only one core. There's a sticky at the top of the forum about it. Quick rundown:
Right-click on your Task Bar.
Click on "Task Manager".
Click on the Processes Tab.
Right-Click on SecondLife.exe
Click on "Set Affinity..."
Uncheck one of your cores (doesn't matter, but I have *slightly* better sability with CPU 0 checked)
Click OK
Close the Task Manager.
You will have to do this each time you run SL. I don't mind doing that, but you can download pieces of software to do this for you. I'm sure there's details about those in the sticky I mentioned.

1GB (1024MB) EVGA GeForce 7950GX2 the (x2) model
2GB Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800 SDRAM
i cant play on highest settings -.-
but i do anyway, because lowest settings dont make any difference in perfromance. just looks less pretty.
any tips for me?
also is there a way to increase the graphics memory higher then the 512 option?
i feel this is a personal advantage i would like to take with my card, and might make a huge difference.
Ok, you actually only have 512M of video RAM. The GX2 is a dual-GPU card. Each GPU has it's own 512M of RAM which is mirrored, so the same information is writted to each 512M at the same time. Think of it like welding two motorcycles together. You'll still go the same number of miles between fill-ups, but you'll tow a trailer with half the effort.
Also, you aren't using your SLI capability. Without a profile for an application, your SLI setup (the GX2 is a SLI setup on one card), only one GPU will handle the rendering. I have a couple links in
this post HERE that explains this and will show you how to make your own profile for SL, so you can get the most of your video card.
