I am having a rough time getting started in SL. It seems really buggy for me. I'm on a 2007 Macbook Pro.
I posted earlier about a teleporting problem which I seem to have somewhat overcome (though not entirely), but now I'm also experiencing a strange problem. Every now and then my avatar gets stuck walking or flying in one direction. She won't respond to any commands to stop or change direction or anything else. When she's walking she stays at the same altitude as in she will walk right through buildings, trees, rocks, mountains... and then the whole game shuts down.
I have been unable to find any help on this issue, either because it's just me or because it's so hard to search on it- I'm not sure what to even call it!
Does anyone have an explanation for it, and how it can be remedied?
TIA

that problem usually happens when you have lost your connection to the SL servers. If you will reboot or power cycle your modem and router (if you have one) that should solve your problem.

When you are inworld you are actually connected to about 5 servers at the same time. The one you are in, and the other four that touch them as well. This is to allow for quick draw and walking through SIM walls easily. There's quite a few posts about Macs in general, thay have little compatability really. There's always issues, but Macs seem to be the worst off. You may want to check your drawy distance if this keeps happening. It's in your preferences. And make sure your cache is set low, like 200megs. Some argue that a larger cache is better, I find when its smaller I have less issues. But check your draw distance and set it lower if you keep lagging.

But if you lose a conection to one of those servers you can really be inworld for quite some time not realizing you aren't even connected anymore. We have gotten used to this. But it can be distressing. Sometimes you will 'snap' back, sometimes you just fly off into the sunset infinately and won't stop. Just easier to close the client if that happens. Also try running SL in a window. That's in your preferences as well. I find it far less tasking on my system.
