Ok, it is really sad, when I finally got time to play SL, there was another update:

- Friends list doesn`t work, everybody is offline!
- Can`t save/edit/create scripts or notecards;
- Search keeps searching forever and doesn`t give any results;
- Groups IM not working;
- Lost a lot of lindens due a "transaction time out" problem;
- SL just closes after few minutes, doesn`t even crash anymore!!
- Teleport sometimes gets broken, only relogging fixes it;
- Most of my inventory wont load;
- My attachments keep moving to the middle of me!
- HUD disappears after teleporting;
- Keep getting stuck in a typing animation;

Could you make SL better? Just can`t do anything! I miss the old SL from 2006, didn`t use to have any problems but the teleport broken.

*hugs*

I'm having the same problems. I actually had a piece of clothing I wore 2 days ago appear on my body again! I've resolved to not wearing any of my jewelry and am close to being barefoot until they take care of these gliches! No fun landing from a tp with your hair and shoes in your crotch and watching your jewelry float in mid air.

Gheesh guys....get this thing fixed! :(((((

Seems theres no time for fun anymore there we spend all our time trying to work around problems!

I am a builder, and am afraid to pull anything out.. The last 3 items I have pulled out in the last 2 days, have all done the sticky ghost prim bs... So I can't build... It's very frustrating...

What bothers me is all this stuff that got lost, we won't get back because they don't give a X

This problem was happening Tuesday and when they took SL down for the patch, they should have left it down. I know they "didn't know" what was causing it, but they knew there was a problem and posted a blog about it. Then the game goes down for the patch, it comes up and the problem is still there!!! They don't even bother to check that. Then they claim they fix it and it reoccurs today. I think if there is any asset losses they should pull the whole hack job coded game down and make sure it works before they put it back up. They just leave it up and inventory (the most important thing, as everything revolves around this) gets lost. They dont' bother to try and get it returned to us. it's like opening your car window and throwing some money out.

I have to agree with BloodDoll - it we are paying tiers and paying for prims we need to have some confidence that the system works - I spend more time trying to repair damage and source deleted objects than I seem to do relaxing and enjoying SL - it is so dissapointing - especially as it is seeming to get worse - elspecially the last upgrade - I dread comming in-world after an upgrade - it is so dissapointing at times.

[9:29 AM] Brin Allen slaps his many ghost prims with a fish, slams the door and does something else.

Seriously though. Builders and scripters (Hey thats me!) are losing money over this. It NEEDS to be fixed, instead LL have let us walk into a ghosty primmy ambush. I would be quite happy to see the grid go down for a day if it means such a simple thing can go right. By simple thing, I mean being able to work on objects and scripts with a chance you can keep them. The grid should not be running with such a blatantly obvious and frustrating problem staring LL and residents in the face

Linden is losing me...
06-15-2007 06:38
I've got a lot of great games on my PC - Oblivion, HL2, Prey, Civ Warlords, etc. - but when I discovered Second Life a few months ago I was hooked. I bought land, built stuff, learned to script - it was great, and I didn't so much as look at those games again... ...until this Wednesday. SL was offline yet again (and in the UK that's 6 hours at peak time). I'd also been having problems with ghost prims, ATI drivers, and many of the other issues reported in this thread. So I played Civ Warlords and, guess what? It worked perfectly! I'd forgotten what it's like to use bug-free software. So, I might give SL another go, but if these problems aren't sorted out soon I fear Linden will lose me.

People we are all singing the same tune and will be doing so until the cows come home - nobody from Lindens is taking any notice - I don't see any indication they are even reading this stuff!

Other the feeling sorry and agreeing with each other this forum is a waste of time.

Well I think they do read the forums. Recently I've seen people complaining about not enough blog updates about technical problems, time stamps and blog titles not being updated when they update a blog and since those comments appeared, they've started to do this.

Maybe it was a coincidence, but I think they took those comments onboard, they have a long way to go but I've seen improvements on that front.

Now if they'd just sort out issues like testing the grid for major issues (like the ghost prim issue) before bringing the grid back live from maintenance, then we might be getting somewhere.

Create a support ticket!!
06-15-2007 11:59
As a computer support tech I know that the first thing you need to do is make sure that the Lindens are aware of the problem. Don't assume this. Make sure they know by creating a support ticket. The number of tickets they recieve about this will indicate to them the magnitude of the problem.

Based on what I've been reading in the forums, I believe the magnitude of this problem may lead to a class action lawsuit. Can you imagine what would happen to Microsoft if users starting losing programs because of a glitch in Windows? Someone goes out and installs a copy of a 1000 dollar program like Adobe CS3 only to have it disappear a few days. Yeah maybe they can reinstall it but with product validation being what it is today maybe they can't.

Start tracking your transaction by downloading the transactions from the Secondlife.com website.

So far my losses have been minor but if they start to add up then I'll be demanding satisfaction.

I think that is a fair comment, however, I'm not so computer literate - I put in a bug report and they ask me to use the Public Tracker - great! Have you seen that thing! It is double Dutch to me - I can read stuff OK but how do you lodge a ticket? How do you vote? - It is non-intuitive. I'm sure the documentation is good but I didn't join SL to wade through online help (I know I've openned myself for ridicule here).

Also - I'm sure it is there somewhere - but how do you contact system support - we're held at arms length since in-world help was removed. I'm (we're) paying substantial tier each month and getting sweet @!#$@ all (or at least very little) - I think they should go down for a week even - fix the thing properly and give us a refund to cover it.

I actually went to one of the people I lost stuff with, hoping they'd help me. I presented the transaction history and they basically told me "oh well." LL needs to fix this. They can't expect us to go back to the creator and ask for a copy and think that those creators are all going to be compliant or even speak the same language (I had problems with that too.) They control the most critical thing in SL (inventory), and they need to make sure not to mix up loss of items/money as a feature of SL instead of the bug it is.

Their last blog post saying "have a great weekend" really says a lot about the professional level of LL. They are leaving the asset issue in game all weekend and people are still losing stuff.

Got to wonder how seriously they're taking this at LL
06-16-2007 08:25
BloodDoll, I hope the 'have a great weekend' comment doesn't mean they're not going to work on this again until Monday.

In any case, I'd certainly appreciate a blog update regarding inventory losses and ghost prims. I am amazed that there were no blog updates on this issue on Friday. Even if things haven't changed substantially, this issue is important enough that they should be providing information frequently.

The blog stated late Thursday that "some of the symptoms seem to have eased off." By late Friday LL should have at least been able to confirm that the symptoms were or weren't easing up. If so, did that improvement continue through Friday? Did it get worse? I can't understand why they won't even tell us that much.

LL has missed a golden opportunity to boost brand loyalty.

Hey Miles. well today when I got on (saturday) i got a message from a friend who picked up a build and lost everything with that same hourglass icon, then nothing. So I guess it's still happening. I haven't been at a pc with the game installed to check myself. I don't want to lose anything though. I lost too much.

Thanks for the vote of confidence Tarak. Unfortunately being computer literate won't help much. Lodging a ticket is a painful process, I know, I did it. But I can't tell you how. I found it somewhere on the seconlife.com/support site.

As for the documentation you are wrong about it being good. It isn't, part of the problem is there isn't any. And what there is, is garbage or extremely basic. I submitted a ticket regarding a lost inventory item, I got an email back from LL that told me next to nothing I hadn't already figured out. There were a couple of things in the letter that were a surprise to me because in months of searching the secondlife website I had never seen these commands mentioned. Try hitting cntrl + alt + shift + 5, the ground disappears, hitting that combination again brings it back. This would have been very helpfull a few months back when I lost several prims below ground.

Have you purchased the "Official Second Life Guide Book", DON'T!!!! It won't teach you anything that you didn't learn your first week inworld. Most of it is about individuals in secondlife and how wonderful their contributiion has been to SL.

Everyone complains about how hard it is to learn the Linden Scripting Language, hell even college educated programmers have a hard time with this. The reason is a lack of documentation. When I was studying C++ I had several text books plus the reference works that came with the C++ compiler package. The reference works were books about 8" high, 6" wide and the set took up a foot of space on my bookshelf.

I've talked to several others and they have had the same experience, when searching the knowledge base they come up with zip no matter how much they try different attacks at the problem.

Linden Labs is made up of a bunch of genious programmers Second Life is an amazing program, but programmers suck at documentation. I know, I've done a little programming, and I've got friends that do a lot of programming. Good programmers like to program, not write documentation. Linden Labs has to hire a team of technical writers and produce some decent documentation. Books not online tutorials or webpages. Something printed or something we can print so we can take it with us to lunch or the coffee room.

Well that's the end of my rant. Maybe I should blog this.

I sell doors and windows and I have a sign in my store that tells my customers I will replace anything they buy from me that the Lindens take from them, no questions asked.

If you're thinking of buying something expensive, ask the person who's selling it what his or her policy is for replacing Linden grabbed objects. If the policy resembles the one BloodDoll heard, take your custom elsewhere, or take your chances.

Ahh yes, the one sided coin.. WE replace everything that is lost... forgive LL once again... although I offer and give quality support to all my products, I cannot afford to replace some of the more expensive items I sell, simply because they incorporate items/scripts I have to purchase for every one item I make, unlike your multi-copy versions of doors and windows, not everything is equal.
I do it, but I can't keep doing it. Once my balance sheet tells me it is costing me more to sell, than I am returning, I'll shut up shop. Quite a few of our products are unique to SL via our outlet, once we stop selling, people in SL will be deprived of the ground breaking technology we provide.
