I had heard of some having issues when upgrading graphics cards. I upgraded from 128 to 256 and had the hardest time just getting rid of the 2nd desktop...where everything seemed to be preventing me from clicking on anything LOL. I opened SL after getting that mess all sorted out and it would not load the interface...just a plain white screen after logging in. So I realized when looking at the preferences that the selection for graphics card was greyed out and I could not select the 256. It was stuck on 128 (even though I had reinstalled SL). So I edited the shortcut target to read: "C:\Program Files\SecondLife\SecondLife.exe"-noprobe This disables the hardware probe and let's you select the graphics card. I thought that I was able to not detect graphics on startup but that was also greyed out. Why are all these options greyed out now in settings? Anyway, I just wanted to share that in case anyone was searching.

I believe it remains greyed out until you actually log into SL. At that point you can set it to auto-detect graphics card.
You could also just delete the user_settings file and have all your prefs reset, which should make SL re-detect your video card.
