First, try the Omega Drivers for your ATI card. http://www.omegadrivers.net That should be the first step for any ATI user having troubles with SL.

Then try this ideas: In PREFS, Turn off the Graphics tic marks for ripples and bumpmapping. turn down the Draw distance to 64. Set all the sliders for graphics details in the middle or less. Be sure AGP is ON, if that's an option. In Network, Move Bandwidth slider to 120. ALSO: If you're coming over from WoW or a Video Game console, don't expect the same quality.

http://www.secondlifeinsider.com/2006/12/26/under-the-grid-other-causes-of-lag/Even less technical: Drink from a fire hose, and you'll drown. Use a water tap the size of your mouth. (or in this case, IP bandwidth the size of your graphics card's ability to handle ) Keywords: Bandwidth Slider lag latency ping time ISP packet loss optimise network And more good performance tuning tips at: /111/1f/106305/2.html#post1373895
