I'm a newbie, so hopefully this isn't due to me misunderstanding something. Ever since that patch yesterday, every time I log in and work on changing my costume it crashes. Every time. Hopefully a new patch undoing yesterdays patch is in the works- whatever was wrong with the game before, at least it was playable.

could be of corrupted cache try deleting the content of this folder

-----------deleting SL cache----------
C:\Documents and Settings\Admin\Application Data\SecondLife\cache\*deletethiscontent*

Might need to enable show hidden folders to see this
On windows , open any folder
tools / folder options / view / show hidden files and folders

Well, thank you for the swift aid. I did everything you suggested- your directions were great, but it didn't seem to help. Grrrrr!

Sorry you're having this problem! At two times in the past I have also experienced issues with changing clothes immediately after a patch.

When you say it crashes, what exactly do you see? Is the whole program crashing, and do you get an error message? Or is the problem just with your clothes? If it's with your clothes, how would you describe the problem? What I encountered in the past was that the clothes would grab random textures from objects around me.

The first time I had this problem, the just-installed patch had told me to update my video drivers, which I did. When the problem occurred, I rolled back to the previous driver (XP offers this) and the problem was solved.

More recently - a week or two ago - I had the exact same problem again. I was also told to clear my texture cache, but it wasn't effective. Instead I tried updating my video driver (I was nervous because that's what broke it last time) and doing that fixed the problem.

My advice would be to upate your motherboard and video drivers then completely uninstall SL (the wiki has instructions on how to do this) and then reinstall the full version of the SL client from the downloads page. Best to do it in that order.

Okay, I updated my Nvidia drivers, rebooted, gave her a shot and it was a no go. To be specific about the problem, I'll open up my inventory and Edit/Appearance, peruse some of the freebie pants trying to find keepers. Sometime during loading the first three pairs, the whole thing just closes on me, and I'm greeted by my desktop and the SecondLife Crash Logger. Boy, they're getting lots of crash data off of me ;b.

On the plus side I know I have the latest drivers?? This is really frustrating, but thanks for trying to help me.

Oh, it's when you're editing your appearance? Hmmm. Have you tried uninstalling yet as Kathmandu suggested? Let us know if that helps!

Okay, I was able to clear out the required caches. But I'm stuck with a nasty problem that has persisted over the couple of days that I've had SL installed- I can't open my Control Panel!!! Every time I do I get the classic "Windows Explorer has experienced an error and had to close. Would you like to send an error report?" box. I had a hard time getting the game to work in the first place, and forgot about the problem once I had things up and running. The game won't let me uninstall it!!!!! What do I do? It's really fun when it work, and a pain in the you-know-what the rest of the time.

EDIT: Well, I got the control panel issue solved, and reinstalled. As long as I don't change out my pants or skirts, game works. Otherwise, not so good. I don't get it. My compy is four months old, I run on Windows XP, I use a NVidia card.... it's not like my hardware is unique/bizarre!

Ouch... it looks like you're using a GeForce 2 MX card. You may actually want to use the old 44.09 drivers instead... I have no idea how well the current drivers support that card, and we've seen nVidia strip features for GF2s in previous driver releases...

Hello!

I took a look at your crash report and it indicates you are using old nVidia drivers. The current version of OpenGL is 2.0.0. The nVidia drivers we have here at the Lab are ForceWare version 77.72. If you go to http://www.nVidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp you can get the newest drivers. Please make sure any 'Download Accelerator' utilities are disabled, virus protection is disabled and you uninstall the old nVidia drivers using Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs. Look for nVidia drivers in there and remove them. If that doesn't help, track me down inworld!

Sorry to have disappeared briefly- I'm grateful for the help on this forum. I just scoured both Nvidia's site and Google for those drivers and can't seem to get my paws on them. Sorry to have to have my head shoved right in the solution, but how do I get ahold of them??

Try Nvidia's driver archive. You can get all the drivers there.

Okay, I totally uninstalled and reinstalled the requested drivers. I still have no stability- but just when it comes to changing the clothes around my legs!!! What gives?!?! This is enough to drive me back to console gaming.
