hello everyone,

i'm one of the residents and group admin of a private sim called Brigadoon, owned by John Prototype. starting Sunday things have started to change on our island...objects are moved or have disappeared, houses have become unlinked, the entire island has sunk a few hundred meters under water, and certain objects seem to have drifted (on their own) to the edge of the sim.

our sim FPS fluctuate in an insane manner (<50 one second, ~ 500 the next, and sometimes ~ 1000) i can upload screenshots similar to the ones here :
/invalid_link.html

which makes me think this might be part of the multi-core bug problem.

i have spoken to Michael Linden on the phone, Altruima Linden "in person" (she gracefully came by our island to check things out), and have emailed Lee Linden, the concierge.

from what i have seen, the chain of command for getting help is a bit fuzzy..., so i'm posting on the forums hoping to get some feedback and raise awareness.

thanks.

My friends had that on a normal sim in ess, her tringo board near the sim border in ess suddenly dissapeared as well as some of the seating close by, after contacting live help a linden and support she was basically told that they couldnt help her and if this buggy multicore cpu bug eats your stuff through no fault of your own your still liable, so they left her 15k out of pocket and an unanswered post in the hotline.

Thanks for your help, Lee. :)

We were rolled back to a previously stable date, so things are peaceful now...but the paths to getting tech support in SL are long and winded.

Don't get me wrong, i fully support LL and their efforts. i like "living" in SL and experiencing all it has to offer, but i do NOT want to be on an insane quest (like i was the other day) trying to get through to the right tech person (and not really knowing who that "right" person was).

I'm a bum in Menagerie and I've noticed FPS flux over the past few days, bladyblue and the other land owners have too. I haven't noticed anything moving....

Actually. I HAVE noticed possible prims disappearing, but none of mine.
Yesterday I noticed that gravity was seemingly reversed on a couple of occassions when i'd dismount a vehicle.

FPS flux on a sim that shouldn't be lagging with the exception on one club that I might have to do 'lag audit' on.

Thanks for pointing this out, guys.

Hm...now that things have calmed down a bit, I am left to wonder as to what exactly caused all the craziness we experienced. I was never told what the cause was. If it was our fault (and by "us" i mean the inhabitants of the sim), then what can we do to avoid this problem in the future?

Also, we are planning on doing some building on the island over the next few weeks and have the sim open to the public in a month or so. I was wondering if we could set our own rollback points, or request to save the registry of the sim for one particular date.

People put in a lot of work in the few hours that they can dedicate to SL, I'd hate to see them frustrated and angry for losing everything. And yes, taking copies of stuff into the inventory is a nice suggestion, but sometimes stuff goes missing from there too...

heh, we need an insurance policy inworld :P
