Onboard Radeon 9100 IGP - Textures missing

I recently joined SL, pretty fun so far. Problem is I can play it fine at work, but on my home machine everything ingame is missing textures... except for my avatar. Everything is one solid color. I can make out the geometry if its on the sky as a background or an avatar. The home system (thats not working properly) is as follows:

Shuttle XPC motherboard and case.
Pent 4 2.8
512 MB ram
radeon 9100 IGP on board graphics

I suspect the onboard video - but it works fine for other games.

I believe all bios, motherboard, and graphics drivers are up to date. Other games I play work just fine.

Has anyone used an onboard radeon to play SL properly?
Tech support thoguht I might try 3rd party drivers.... I would rather not since everything else works just fine. Any experience you might have in this matter would be awesome. other than that... a suggestion on a compatible video card with nvidia chipset and one with ATI chipset under $100(online price) would be nice. I have seen min requirements but a better card would be nice.
Bakus

PS whats up with the message from SL when i log in that i need verision 3.8 of catalyst. I have 5.7!

Honestly, the problem will probably go away if you install the Omega Drivers. The IGP 9100 is well above SL's minimum specs, and it's probably just some minor driver wackiness that's doing this.

There's no guarantee that a new video card will fix the problem, (though it probably will) but if you're looking for a good one for not a lot of money, the Radeon 9600XT and 9800SE are both around the same amount, and perform comparably. The Radeon 9600 is also a good card for the price, but won't deliver speeds as good as the 9600XT's. Personally, I'd go with the 9800SE, were I to pick between those three cards.

I have a hard time believing that I am the only person who has experienced this problem. I have searched the forums and the WIKI and found nothing similar. I would like to think that I am pretty technically savvy. I help people with computer hardware and software everyday at my job. No one seems to even beable to guess as to what is causing the problem... everything people guess I have tried. In order to get some more suggestions I am offering:

FREE LINDEN DOLLARS TO THE PERSON(s) WHO HELPS ME SOLVE THIS PROBLEM.

how many $ you ask? depends on the level of assistance.... no less than 100 (in case I get lots of help - i am a poor noobie) and up to 1000 linden dollars if i think the information was complete and gets me up and running without buying additional hardware. If you want to know specifics about the problem system please ask.

Hi, I just wanted to suggest that you call the support number, not just email them.

I'm going with on-board radeon 9100 (P4 3.0 512) and I have exactly the same problem, still looking for some solution ...

I talked with tech support today and they recommended that I try it with the case off.... because it could be a cooling issue. Still same problem is there.
Things I have tried...

Up to date BIOS
Up to date chip set
Up to date windows pro sp2
Up to date Catalyst drivers
Up to date Omega drivers
Taken the case off to keep cool

So.... any other suggestions would be excellent.... otherwise I guess I will try a nvidia 5200 since they are only about $50. I will probably order tomorrow unless i get this fixed another way. I will post progress when the card arrives or problem is solved.

This is probably your best option, but of course, it raises the possibility of incompatibilities between your ATI chipset and the Nvidia GPU. I haven't seen any evidence to support this happening, but it's something to watch out for. You've made sure your motherboard has an available AGP slot, right?

Yes. it has a 8x agp slot. I still haven't decided what card to buy yet.

For a card, see if you can find a TI 4200. It will outperform the 5200 and should be cheaper. I used a 4200 when I started SL and it worked well enough.

Intigrated vidoe card sounds like it doesn't have enough video memory allocated. It is shared with the system memory and SL is such a memory hog that none is left over for video.

Hi,
I know it is an old thread, but I had the same system and same symptoms.

However, for me, the symptoms went away when I disabled 'fog' in the debug menu (which you bring up by pressing alt-shift-ctrl-D).

I hope this info could be helpful to somebody :)
