Sim CPU statistic in Alt-1

I was comparing sims today and noticed that some of them show 1.0 in the Alt-1 Stat's Bar and some show 0.5

What exactly is this saying? Is the CPU only working at half speed or something. It doesn't seem to follow any pattern either. Some of the newer sims are at 0.5 and some 1.0 and the older sims also seem to have no pattern.

I was just curious to see if anyone knows what this number is actually reporting.

Thanks.

The older the sim is, the more likely it's going to show a 1.00 on the Sim CPU.

Here's what I figure: The newer sims are MUCH more powerful than the older sims. So they're actually capable of running multiple sims at one time. Which is why they only show 0.50. Two sims on one processor. Void sims, by the way, usually show 0.25. Four sims on one processor.

I figure this is where the large quantity of land during the land boom came from. They didn't actually pay for more servers. They just found a way to split the ones they had. Only thing is, half of a processor on the new boxes STILL is faster than a complete old processor. And people are noticing.

In almost all cases sims that show .50 are running on a hyperthreaded CPU. In these cases the sim is using all the CPU on the server and is the only sim running on that server, the stat just shows funny.

The void sims are currently 4 sims to 1 server so they will usually show .25.

:)

We always assign one CPU to one sim/region for those regions in which people own land. We may put more into one in the future, but only in cases where we are trying to create large fixes areas of unowned land around the owned land, and in those cases we will come up with a way to clearly indicate the density of sims to CPUs.

Only the void sims and wholly linden-owned land run more than one sim/CPU.

Seems important to understand how much sim you are getting.

Our sim used to be 0.33 CPU. I understand what the hyperthread deal would do that, but where does 0.33 come from? (This was in Mauve, we had bad sim fps, but a few days later we were at 0.5 and back to normal)

But usually is aok :)
