For some reason a lot of people have had similar problems after upgrading to the new client. It appears to me that the new client is using something that the old client did not..........and it appears to be graphics related. Check for the latest graphics drivers for your card. If you find one then download it but don't install it before you uninstall your existing one first.......the install it.
That and doing (yet another) download of the new client. Again don't install it before you uninstall the old one first. Then do a search for any SL related files left over from the uninstall and manually delete them (you can keep any bookmarks and such). Then you might as well do a disk clean up and defrag. After all that try installing SL again.
Sometimes it's a cumulative thing with SL. Everything seems to be working just fine, then one little change puts it all over the edge and you have huge problems. Give it a try....hope it all works for you.

I found the same thing when I got that last update they put out that said it was to increase stability etc etc. Well needless to say it didnt do that on my end. I got freezes for no reason when all I did was rotate the camera and on top of that when I try to texture something clicking the texture window yields an at least 10 second wait when it was once at most a second.
With the latest update....yeah well I was sitting at a friends place...just sitting and chatting nothing more and poof my SL locked up completely for the third time that night. (While I was just sitting there, not doing thing to even stress teh viewer) At that point I lost patience and never logged back on and haven't been since honestly. That was Friday night.

Can you be more specific about the unable to create files error? Did anybody else with problems get that? I ask because it makes me wonder if there's a more serious problem. Ie. with the HDD and/or filesystem. I'd be tempted to wipe SL and the settings directory off my system and reinstall in case a permissions issue is preventing it writing over old files. After uninstalling SL on Windows that would involve removing the following directories: c:\Program Files\SecondLife c:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Application Data\Second Life .. replacing %username% in the second directory with your Windows username.

crash upon teleporting
09-25-2007 15:16
My issue has been crashing upon teleporting. I have a very new Mac with lots of memory and upgraded graphics card. Since the new download, I crash almost every time I teleport. I have submitted at least a dozen crash reports.

I ve been experiencing the same problems since April 2006. But...version 1.18 - the last without voice chat included - was the best in my opinion. With this *voice* client i find new bugs: 1 - crashes dramatically increased...yes even sitting on a sofa reading the paper. 2 - arrows dont work properly: I cant stop walking, I cant change direction. 3 - teleports very often log me off. 4 - i cant upload images without crashing. 5 - scripts run and objects rez by themselves. 6 - strange things happen in parcels especially while editing. Despite what LLabs say about the servers, i think voice is heavily interfering. We need an optional *no-voice* client...Well i should say voice-users (20%) need their optional voice client
