Changing your SL name

Is this possible or would I have to create a new identity with a different email address? I dont want to lose my items but I do want to change my name.

As far as I know, it's not possible. I think they would, for example, fix my name so the v is capitalized, but that is about all that is currently available.

Well Since Llabs is allowing multi avie usage then need for changing names is fruitless. Since you can just signup for a new name you like.

Yeah you can, but by getting an alt you lose all access to No Transfer items in your inventory. That's the problem. If I didn't have so much No Transfer stuff, I'd have changed my name long ago.

Honestly, I think you should be able to change your name one time in the course of your SL for a small fee (even payable by L$). Or at least give everyone a warning that the first name isn't the one that really matters.

Yup. That is my concern. Many of my items are no transfer, including items I made on my own (but no longer have the files for). Oh well, cant blame a gal for tryin.

Actually, that's not a bad idea. it cou;d put a few bucks into Linden's coffers and caould spring up a new area....The SL Witness Protection Program.

Yeah. Or some sort of transfer feature so that even non-transfer/non-copy items can be ported from one character to the other.

Maybe you've been doing stuff you regret and don't want to do anymore (if you know what I mean) - hah - done it, been there, bought the teeshirt - you can soon shake off that stuff... my shallow existance of a few weeks ago has just about gone and I am now a pillar of the SL community - well sometimes...

Well I agree ^_~, but are we going to get that...no. And it's a minor thing to add as well.

One compromise might be some kind of "avatar estate", where you can merge the assets of two accounts, for a fee, and pick one name to keep and one name to discard. The fee could be in US$ (direct income to LL) or L$ (another Linden sink, allowing them to turn it into income through Supply Linden).

I had a completely different reason to change it. I just realized that while creating a character just like me in a direct fashion is all fine and good. Still I wanted to experiment with creating a whole new person...only partially like me in the respect that it is from my head.

I agree that a Witness Protection Program could be neat.
