I had no idea that this problem even existed until someone told me, "You look different, unusually short and generally ugly today, why did you change your shape?"
Well, I did not I replied. The person then sent me a snapshot of my avatar and I indeed looked different on her screen (while I looked fine on mine). I still looked sort of like me but a lot shorter and with a lot less muscles, the head was too big. (not the ruthed bug, i was still male)). A teleport to another sim fixed it though and I was told I looked ok again.
I thought it was a temporary glitch but I decided to test this out a bit because I found it annoying to know that I might look like a dwarf on others screen while not knowing it.
We have another computer in the home network and I used my girlfriends SL account to look at my avatar from that computer.
I tested it a lot of times and at about 25 percent of the times when I walked up to my av with her account, my avatar had this bizarre shape and it seemed to happen randomly. My av was shorter, facial features sort of looked the same but the head appearing a bit too large, a lot less muscles and generally ugly. I tested this for a few days.
While looking at my av from the other computer I tried rebaking, entering appaerance without saving, changing shapes back and forth and nothing helped. I still had the wrong shape on the other computer while I looked fine on our main computer which I had my av logged on at.
The only thing that helped and made me appear normal on the other computer was teleporting in and out the current sim or relogging but the bug still continued to happen randomly. I have also tried clearing cache, reinstalling SL, tested with other computers and everything I can think of.
So, I have a question. Is this a normal bug...? Something you have to expect in SL? I mean maybe most people look different on others computers without knowing?? I have also looked at my packetloss and it was at zero.
This is stupid and I am probably going to quit SL if I can't resolve it... I would actually prefer being grey or blurry. Atleast then ppl would know it's a rezzing problem....
