I'm having problems once I am in second life for some reason...

It's all black apart from the odd place! I've tried the "Forcing Sun, sunset" etc. with no luck.

This screen that I am typing with is the usual colours - so would appreciate some help here please!

Hmm, is it like all black except for "full bright" textures?

I had this happen to me at night, the moon was black and gave off NO ambient light, though day worked fine. Could not fix it with any in world setting and also couldn;t fix it by hacking the preference files.

I finally just uninstalled SL and removed all the saved preferecen files from C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Roaming\SecondLife (on Vista, on XP it's slightly different) and then reinstaled clean and it worked again.

It's most likely your video card.

Try uninstalling it and reinstalling. My gf had this problem, even upgraded her video card. But turns out this was the only thing that would work.
