I have heard about issues with inventory vanishing, and rather than fuss about it (a separate issue) I wonder what can be done to guard against it. I would lose my land if I lost my inventory, for my inventory is critical to my business. 1) Does giving a 'copy' of everything to someone offer any protection, or do all copies vanish when there is a problem? 2) Does it matter how much inventory you have? 3) What else might be done?

I had my first customer complaint last night. Client bought a dress last Sunday that is now gone from inventory. (yes she did a search, etc - just not there anymore).
This is obviously not my fault, but what can I do? Tell her, hey SL is screwed so too bad? Of course not! I dropped a new one on her. Not a big deal.
However, a friend of mine has been progressively missing clothes or clothing items are getting permanently screwed up in his inventory. Of course, that raises a concern to me as a designer. Are we going to be plagued by client IMs that clothing is "messed up" or has "disappeared"? I hope to hell not.
I have enough to worry about as my new hair line development is stagnated as I can hardly function anymore. Trying to use my camera freezes me up each time I click it. Clothing design is also frustrating as using appearance settings also freezes me up - textures take long to rex, blah blah blah.
I have been patient, but Im starting to go nuts to be honest. SL has gone from a creative outlet and a fun business I am passionate about to a place to park my AV while I chat. I can chat much smoother via MSN. Still, I await the newest update with bated breath and a glimmer of hope that things will improve.

Having an alt with copies of all the important copiable items you have would be a good idea.. Or putting copies in prims in world.. or in multiple locations in your inventory.. Not much can be done about no copy items..

Ah, thanks for the replies, what I'll do then is store everything among a friend or two and some prims. - Desmond Shang

Unfortunately, this "workaround" only works if the object (UUID) itself doesn't get borked by the asset server instead of just the inventory pointers to that UUID. I guess wearing a belt when you really need a belt and suspenders is slightly better than no belt.
