I was unable to use autoupdate within the client. It would start, then crash. I could download and install the update from the website, but autoupdate would always crash in client. I managed to fix it. Maybe this solution will work for others. Yeah, I bug reported it, too. It seemed to be a problem with my Windows account name. I'm running as Administrator, but for SOME reason, Windows 2000 had created my account folder as Administrator.PAUL. Based on my reading of the log created by autoupdate, I figured that autoupdate was choking on that folder name. It appears that autoupdate uses DOS pathnames, subject to the old "~" ambiguity and probably length limitations. This seems like a really bad idea. Lindens? I edited my registry (warning: dangerous!) to change the name of my account folder to Administrator, relogged on Windows as Administrator and now autoupdate works ok. So, it seems like a path problem, based on autoupdate's use of old DOS pathnames. Anyone else have input on this issue?

I too had problems with the autoupdater...and I'm using a fresh, brand-new installation of Windows XP sp2. There was definitely something in the recent autoupdater loader routines that prevented loading. I had to go to the website and manually download the program.
